I'm a long way from that area and know zero about handlining. Are there any sites or articles that tell about doing it with short musky rods and reels? THANKS GUYS AND GALS!

You could do a search on polelining, but its not quite the same. One thing about holding the line in your hand is you get a really good feel for the bottom and can react instantly. Polelining is a lot harder on your arms, too.
