When trolling spoons behind dipsy's, jets, or three-ways, what is the best way to rig your swivels? Do you just put a good quality swivel w/split-ring directly on the spoon and then tie your leader directly to it, or do you put the swivel at the dipsy/jet end and just tie the spoon directly to the leader? I guess you could argue doing both, maybe?

I guess I have the same question in regards to trolling cranks/stickbaits. What is the best way to attach the leader? Do you even need a swivel when trolling these baits behind dipsy's/jets? If so, which end of the leader?

At first I thought the answers to these questions were obvious, but as I searched previous posts, it seems as if everyone was doing it differently. Therefore I have been getting more and more confused. Just want the safest way to do it for a trolling novice.

Oh yea, final question: black or silver snaps/swivels?

Thanks everyone!

I use a plain snap for attaching crankbaits to my line. For dipseys/jets, I use a 6'to 7' leader with a plain snap on one end and a good quality ball bearing snap swivel on the other. If i'm pulling a spoon, i put the snap on the dipsy jet and the snap/swivel on the spoon. If i'm pulling cranks, I reverse it.
works for me.

Thanks Mike. That sounds like an efficient and simple way to handle both type baits. Thank-you for responding.
