Ok, you've answered my question about the rods. Now, here's one about line for jigging.

See if this makes sense: You want to be able to watch the line so you can detect a hit when the jig is falling. But you don't want to use a line that fish can see. So, how about a high visibility line (say 10# Stren Hi-Vis) tipped with a clear leader (maybe flourocarbon 8#)? Both connected with a blood knot?

Does that sound like it would work?

Thanks again for the advice.

A double uni-knot works better. I wouldn't worry about fish seeing the line and spooking - we've been using fireline without leaders for years on juigs and they don't care - even the flame green color. Plus sensitivity is greatly enhanced by fireline. Chuckles

Chuck,I have used a combo of Berkley 8# Hi-Vis with a Berkley Vanish
leader on the clear waters of West Okoboji.Do you like jigging with the fireline? What test and diameter?I rigged up two jigging poles with the lime green fireline for this year.I do love to use the Hi-Vis line while jigging, alot easier to see bites!Take care Chuck.

Setter, what weight leader do you use with the 8# hi-vis?

Chuck, what weight fireline do you use for walleyes? Also, do you believe the fish don't see the flame green color? Is it right that fireline is a lot smaller in diameter than mono?

Thanks, Trout.

Trout,I use a 8# Berkley Vanish leader. This line is not seen by the fish so it's a matter of what you like. Also the Fireline is smaller diameter than mono.I would go with 10# test min. on your fireline.Sometimes the lighter Fireline will dig into your spool and you'll have problems. Also if your water is stained don't worry about your fish seeing the line.Use a Hi-Vis line and your jigging will improve! Are you new to the walleye game? This site has alot of eye experts so to speak.Best walleye site around!Feel free to e-mail me anytime and I'll help with what I can.Take care and best of luck!

Setter--

Yes, I'm fairly new to walleye fishing. I've fished a long time but just recently caught the walleye bug. We've been going to Canada the past 7-8 summers and "eyes" are the big thing there. We get a lot of northerns but not as many walleyes. I'm trying to change that. I appreciate all the advice on this site. I've looked at a lot of others but this one really is the best.

I fish a variety of water. One lake I fish around home (Northern Indiana) is very clear. I've caught a couple nice walleye there but suspect there are a lot more to be had. I want to give myself every advantage. That's why I was asking about leaders.

Thanks again for all the advice.
