I've bought mine through Reeds in MN. I too am from IL. This winter though I've bought 3 of them through two different sports shows for $69 and they gave me a $15 rebate slip from Berkely. The rods are usuallt $99 each. I would suggest going to a show and keeping your eyes peeled. I love the rods, very lightweight and sensitive.

I have a med -action that I'VE had for 12 years or more, and it's turned from a dark color to a whiteish gray color' and is still as sensitive as it ever was. There excellent rods. redrnger
Just bought one from Reeds 2 weeks ago. Best price I could find from retail outlets. $80 delivered to you with internet order. I bought a 6'spinning MH. I didn't look at the price of any other models however. Good customer service as well. RJ in Montana..

Got three of them, bought them at our Scheel's Store here in SD. Mine were right around 99.00 with the rebate slip of 15.00. Nice rods, I just put the new Abu-Garcia 101 spinning reel on them, hope this reel works out. Seems like a great reel for the price (35.00)....
Thanx guys for the info.. Glad to hear you guys like them.. I know they have made Series Ones for a while and changed the handles over the years. .The newest ones are on the website.. On the Tag that was attached to the rod when purchased does it mention what type of graphite it is? Wondering how they compare to IM6, IM7 and IM8 ? Also anyone know if the Guides are the same as St. Croix or others?

I've been fishing Series One rods for the last seven years and would give them a glowing recommendation. They are extremely sensitive (for jigging and even some rigging applications), and I even cast cranks and light jigs with the medium action model.
They are as durable as any rods I've ever owned, too. I'd put them up against ANYTHING else out there.
If you can get them for the prices I'm seeing here, load up. That's a steal!

I know I saw them around NE Illinois somewhere. Can't remember if it was Ed Shirely's or Galayan's. Trying calling around. Maybe it was GAT guns in Algonquin?
Got two, one spinning, one casting, they compare very favorably to the Technas and St. Croixs I love. I use the spinning Series One rod (6 1/2')for livebait rigging and have used it for jigging and like it very much as a "compromise". I put fireline on it thinking I might get some more "information", and don't generally use fireline otherwise. I like the combination, but I'm no expert. Thought I should add, for the price, get a couple in the action and length best suited for your fishing - I have more expensive rods, but I'd be hard pressed to say there are big money differences, in my amateur opinion.

I have been using Series One 7-ft. casting rods for about 12 years as my plug pullers and love them. I don't know about today's models, but I've put mine through heck and they've never failed me (I own 3). They're exceedingly well-built, light, and really sensitive. I use them for plugging because it's so easy to feel the action change when you pick up a piece of moss or grass or something, and these things were built 12 years ago!

At the Madison show today I saw them on sale (6', med action spinning and casting) for $69.99 and they offered a $15 Berkely rebate slip. These were at the Wolf River Resort booth. If you're looking for that type of Series One, it's a pretty good deal (if you ask me).

Before I started building my own rods my two nicest rods were Series One's. Both casting rods. Since I didn't really want to fork out the cash for new replacements. Much less throw away the $100 a piece I paid for the Berkley's I didn't replace them, but I stripped them down and rebuilt them. They are a really nice blank and I still enjoy them immensly. Berkley's best rod blank, by a long shot.
Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

I've touted the Series One on the general discussion board before. Great rod. The St. Croix avid is a nicer, but not enough to make up the cost difference. Also I have broken both an avid and series one, the warranty service from Pure Fishing Canada (distributers of berkley) was superior to the the St croix warranty.

Although you have chosen a good handle, it has already been taken. You may want to change that handle to a name that is not already used to give you a unique identity.
Thanks
