View Full Version : berkley lightning rod professional
does anyone have one yet and how do you like it or dislike it
I am looking at 7 ft medium action casting
and 7 ft medium action spinning
rebs
I can't help you but can tell you that I bought one of the medium spinning yesterday. I'd be interested in hearing comments, also.
I bought it at my local Wal Mart on sale for $20. I have a "Spring Stock UP" coupon book that I picked up at a local Sports Authority. There's a $10 rebate coupon in there for lightning rods. So----net cost to me will be 10 bucks. Don't know where you live but maybe you can find a similar deal.
If they are the ones with the stainless eyelets, they are great with everything but slip bobbering. The bobber stops don't slide through very well, so you end up checking your depth after every fish. Otherwise they are a great rod for your buck.

No, the Walmart ones referred to above are IM6, have a half-foam grip, and different guides - but, for that money, still a he11 of a deal.
I have an Lightning Rod Professional Series that is about 5-6 years old - it's still my second-best rod. I would hope that the new ones are even better - but based on mine, you will not be disappointed. My position has often been they are the best value rods dollar for dollar, period.
If you buy the 7' spinning and don't like it, there'll be lots of guys happy to take it off your hands, me included.

i have been using the lightning rods since they came out, i love em, when they first came out they were 70.00 bucks, i now use nothing but the lightning rods i use them for everything, i have a 7 ft medium one and i,ll say this you can feel the fish breath on the line, they just came out with the professional series and i havn,t tried one yet but i will, that will be the next rod i get, for the 30.00 bucks they charge for a lightning rod you can,t get a better deal, light, cast a country mile, more sensitive than a womans G-spot and more backbone that most 200.00 dollar rods, i have caught almost every species of fish that swim the waters where i,m at from steelhead to crappie to everything in between and i have tried lots of other rods but for me its the lightning rod that holds up way way better, for 30.00 bucks if you do break one and in 25 years i never have its no big deal, i still have the 1st 2 i bought and they are still fishable rods but i don,t use them anymore i have them hanging in my gameroom because they both have caught way more than their share of fish so i retired them, by the way i think i own around 40 of them in different styles and lenths and actions, try a few i think you,ll like them.
I'm sure the rod I bought was the cheaper model. They're probably selling them off. Still a good deal for my fishing needs!

Any of these Hank Parker signature series?

Brian, I'm pretty sure the Hank Parkers are an industry exclusive, only available from us or an American Rod & Gun retailer.

How do you survive without Loomis? :-)
How cool that these rods get such high praise from users.
I bought my 1st 7 footer last weekend. Lightning rods are the best rod money can buy. I have a bunch of them. Heck, if I break one ( which is rare ) I don't even try to return it. It paid it's way.

They may not be the best rod money can buy, but in my mind they are definately far and away the best rod for the money-I probably own 20 of them in all shapes and sizes!

Do you guys that use them notice much difference between the one and two piece rods?

i do have several of both the 1 and 2 peice rods, the only difference is the 2 peice are easier to haul around in a smaller auto, other than that nothing at all.

Ditto to Shadowman's post. Both feel the same--AWESOME. Strong enough to handle bigger fish, light enough to make smaller fish feel bigger! Didn't realize my Lightning Rods were Professional Series til I read the handle! What I have are 5 foot Ultralight Spinning(1-piece), and a 6 1/2 foot Medium Light Spinning( 2-piece). Great rods!! I will definitely be buying more.
