Can anyone give me your opinion on using circle hooks on Steelhead
verses regular walleye hooks? Fishing the North Shore of Superior.
Thanks

nothing wrong with using circle hooks, it does however take some getting used to not setting the hook, the fish just hook themselves, i,m still trying to get used to not setting a hook on a fish and its harder than you think, i have been using them for 2 years now.

I have been using circle hooks for the past 2 years now for steelhead and like them alot. However, I am float fishing, something that might not be an effective presentation on the North Shore streams. Guys that I have talked to that use them with yarn for bottom bouncing said they like them.

I am partial to the Gamakatsu's. Make sure you buy one size smaller than you normally would with these as they seem to run large.

Thanks for the info. Yor are right about the size of the hooks Bob. I measured a #4VMC Conecut with a Gamakatzu #4 circle and it is bigger. I will be Lindy rigging in the lake with floating spawn saks and sometimes its hard to get to the rod quick enough to set the hook. We will see when the ice moves out.

With a spawnsac, I usually use a size 6 in cloudier water and a size 8 in clear water. Have fun with those loopers!
