Just got my new Yama T-8 in and can NOT wait to use it. One issue I have though is that I bought it on line and it didn't come with instructions on how to break it in. How have others broken in their t-8's? Thanks-lb

I suggest you call Yamaha or see if their website has any downloads of the owner's manual. You defintitely don't want to guess about the break in process. Here's the link direct to their site:

Please keep us informed about this process... I will be ordering mine next week. Thanks!

The best way to break in T8 is to box it up and send it to a friend (me!:)) to run for a season.
Actually, I have the book at home that prescribes the details of the break-in and I too can't wait to get that going but I didn't write this note to brag on that. The Yamaha tech. I talked to when I picked up the boat told me that the break-in directions are too easy on the motor and that the user should cut each step in half. Now, I'm not going to actually do this (because the computer keeps track) but I am going to add some "Run it hard!" time after the steps are followed.

Just curious why a new motor wouldn't come with an owner's manual, regardless of where it was purchased.

Doh... Now I'm in a panic and need to rush home to make sure the little-one is still there...

Here are the proceedures from my T-8 manual....
Break in time is 10 hours.
Run the engine under load (in gear with a propeller installed) as follows:
1- For the first hour of operation run the engine a 2,000 rpm or approx half throttle
2- For the second hour of operation run the engine at 3,000 rpm or approx 3/4 throttle
3. For the next 8 hours of operation avoid continuous operation at full throttle for more than 5 minutes at a time
4. After the first 10 hours operate engine nomally.
Also....
Yamaha recommends changing the oil after break in is complete.
Good Luck.
I just re-read my post. I Typed it right out of the manual.... But I have to add the following comment to the "in gear with a propeller installed"
Duh!
Also, I would recommend getting the entire manual. Covers a lot more stuff than break in.
