View Full Version : Downrigger Rod ?
May be a dumb question, but what is the difference between a
"downrigger" rod and a bait cast rod?

Generally the downrigger rods are much longer and very flexible so you can create quite an arc in the rod when you have it hooked up in a downrigger holder....Larry

In addition to what Larry said, downrigger rods are typically all fiberglass or a composite. Most baitcaster rods are typically graphite.
Do Downrigger Rods need a special handle type or lenghth to fit in the downrigger apparatus?

If the rod is a "downrigger rod", i.e. , made for that purpose, it will fit in the rodholder. rodholders on downriggers are basically just a tube with about a 2" diameter by 8 inches or so long.
