How slow will you pull a size 1 dipsy?
The "book" has them rated in the dive curve at 2.5 - 3.0 and 20# test.
I have been pulling them around 1.7 with 8# diamter line and they seem to be running quite a bit deeper.
I am more concerned with the speed factor than the line diameter issue (converter in the front of the book).
Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.
Thanks,

Dipseys are VERY speed dependant - all sinking baits/devices are. Much more dependant on Speed than line diameter. The 8# diameter contributes to them running deeper but not as much as the speed. 1.7 is pretty slow for dipseys but it can be done just shorten your leads.
I rarely troll less than 2 knots when pulling dipseys.
Good Luck,
Steve
You will need to shorten up the lines when trolling slower, but don't be afraid to fish em slow if you need to. The thin line diameter (r u using powerpro?) is also going to make the dipsy get deeper. I used to drive myself nuts trying to come up with a formula for this but now I just let the fish tell me how deep to be by varying the spread, usually by working shallower to deeper. Lets say you are running 3 dipsys a side with sidesets of 4,3,2 I might start with the line out 60,50 and 37 -later changing to 70,60,45 If you try to run them too close to the bottom, the inside dipsys will drag and open on turns.

Thanks guys.
I am using Powerpro and will continue to experiment. I think I will try the small dipsy next and see if it works any better with the slower speeds. The 1 might be too big for the slower speeds.
Regards,
If you are targetting 35' or less, you probably will get along better with the size 0 Dipsys. Above 25' you may want to take the ring off of the size 0.
We are ussually below 35' and always use the size 1 with the ring. It's tricky enough to get a confidence level going, so make it as easy and fool-proof as possible.
Great fish catcher, once you get onto them.
