I've owned Interstate, MnKota, DiHard & Excide. I charge on the average of 50 times a year. I live in northern MN and use the batteries in cold conditons. I maintain them by properly charging , cleaning terminals, checking water levels and topping them off once a month in the off season Each brand lasted as follows:

Interstate 3-years...Would buy again

MnKota 2-years...Would not buy again

DiHard Less than 2 years - One set replaced on warranty
Would not buy again.

Excide 3 years on first set Still using 3 years later in Camper
3 years on second set and I'm deciding if should
I should replace them as they show no sign of
going bad. Would buy again.

Trojan batteries have been getting good reviews (SCC-225?). Regarding the above post, Minn Kota batteries are Exides with a different label.

Has anyone tried Bass Pro batteries? Was told they're made by
Trojan. If so, might be pretty good.

I have had the same set of DieHards since May of 98. Onboard charger and have never had a problem.

Trojan gets my vote, I have had terrible luck with the Interstate Group 31's. I checked the levels frequently on the Interstates and my Guest 2623 kept them charged, but they still did not hold up. I went through 3 sets in 4 years. Now it's Trojans, seem to be holding up well, even got better after using them a few times....

Take a look at the Wal-Mart Extreme.. the 29 series have over 200 min. reserve and are under $70. I've ran them 3 years now and still strong.

I have the Bass Pro AGM batteries. Great battery and a good value.

Buy the biggest Trojans they make and you should be set for 3 years, maybe more. Mine seem to get better with age. Have not had any problems what so ever. This will be the third boat I've transferred them to.
