If you had $100.00 to spend on lures what would you buy? I am just getting into walleye fishing and I am trying to get an idea of where to start with lures without breaking the bank.

well first where are you fishing.i would get a few blade baits and
jigs for the spring.
maybe some worm harnesses from bait rigs along with there jigs.
a few bottum bouncers as well.
for trolling cant go wrong with shad raps, rogues, reef runners.

Dynamite works pretty good. Not really, jigs and bladebaits work good in rivers.crawler harness and jigs in lakes.Crankbaits later on when you get some more money.

Would have to agree with WalleyeKen.Dont forget a rod & reel!Just jokes! If you dont have a depth sounder, get one, they are invaluable! You can have all the tackle in the world but you still have to find the fish. "the fishing was so slow today, even the liars didnt catch a thing"

If I only had $100 to spend I'd buy lottery tickets and hope for the best. Man, it seems I spend close to $100 every time I go into a sporting goods store. Thank goodness I'm single and have my priorities straight. If it ain't fishing gear it's new camera equipment.

I would first evaluate and detirmine where I'd be fishing the most. Are you fishing the Great Lakes? Are you fishing large glacial lakes? Are you fishing prairie pothole lakes? Are you fishing resevoirs? Are you fishing rivers? Each type of water tends to have a little different tackle.

If all I had was $100 to spend on tackle I would buy the items that are consistent fish producers on the types of water I'd want to fish. The one safe tackle item for ALL Walleye anglers is jigs. Styles and sizes will differ however.

Narrow your search down, and you'll get a much better result.

Better to have and not need than to need and not have!

learn rigging. Tackle is relatively cheap and interchangeable. It may not be the best technique year round, but rigging will catch fish year round.

Sinkers, hooks (esp red), bottom bounces, swivels, floating jig heads, crawlers harnesses.

With any remaining cash pick up some jigs and firetiger shad raps.

I'd pick up some Zip lures they are only $3.00 a lure at Bass Pro and Gander Mountains. I think Fleet is running a sale on them for 2.50. They come in several sizes from 1/8oz. to 1/2oz. They came out with a 1 1/4oz. that I have used in deeper drop-offs jigging and casting with some decent sucess. They have great colors from dark to bright flrouescents with a lot of flash. In the rivers they are great because of the vibration when jigging.

Give 50.00 to Den at Sportsmans Post and tell him to fill you up and include some of the best Reef Runners for the area. Then hang on to the other 50.00 and spend it after you hear more from others and the area you are fishing most. Then go buy. Then take the other $25 (Come on now we all have or will have it stashed by spring) and go pick what you think will work.
Go to Search on this site and read because you can not fish on soft water yet.
Enjoy

Buy a book with your first $20 on "How To and What To Buy", or hang around here for awhile and you'll spend it easially with all you'll learn.

Jigs, bottom bouncers with snelled spinners, Lindy or Roach rig setups, and a couple of Rapala Shad Raps. That'll easily blow a hundred bucks even if you only buy small amounts of each.

The best lure buying advice is to spend a little at a time and do so often. If I spent $100 on lures in one shot my wife is not happy and I get the what are you going to get for me speach. On the other hand, I can drop $20-40 every time we are near a tackle shop and it never raises an eyebrow. You will build up an impressive selection in no time at all. Rich

Thanks all. Unfortunately I will be fishing rivers, Great Lakes, small inland lakes so it looks like my options have expanded greatly. I have all of the electronics so I am set there.

I know that buying tackle is a never ending process since there is almost always one more thing you would like to have.

I will keep an eye out on the board and make my list.

Thanks again!!!!

If I could only spend 100 on lures I'd get:
2 DD Husky Jerks, 1 in a natural pattern, 1 in firetiger ($10)
4 Floating Rapalas in size 7 or 9 ($20)
4 Shad Raps in size 5 or 7 ($25)
4 1 1/2oz bottom bouncers ($5)
Spinner Rig Components ($20)
2 Husky Jerks in size 10 or 12 ($10)

The remaining money will cover tax at up to an 11% rate.

The DD Husky jerks will cover the deep water situations, the floating raps will cover you in shallow water situations and in river situations you can use them on 3-way rigs or pull them behind the bottom bouncers. The shad raps cover your mid depth situations and spinner rigs cover you for all depths when the fish don't want to go on cranks. The husky jerks cover casting to weedlines and neutral/negative mood situations.

Good luck,

James

Have you considered a lure retrival device to get back some of the lures that are hung up? It might save you $$ in the long run.
