Planning the trip of a lifetime. Going to fish Erie! Going to fish April 13-18. Is this the best time to catch a teenager eye? The results of last years PWT pointed us here. Warrior

Check out the results from the Detroit river tournament last year. I fish out of Ohio in the west sister area and I'll be there the weekend ahead of you.

The spawn starts when the water temperature hits the low 40s, after ice out. So depending on when the ices goes has a lot to do with catching the big females. Normally from mid March up through April and maybe into May are good time for big walleye in the western basin.

One more thing, the PWT will be there the 16th to the 18th. Should be able to learn something then if you hang around the right places.

Best time to catch a teener size eye is now till next winter..Actually I have caught more eyes over ten pounds in the period encompassing the next four weeks than any other..But you can catch them any day/week or month on erie....FISH HARD...Len
The earier you come, the more prespawn females will be available. Also be advised, the earlier you come the more likely you'll be stuck on shore waiting for nasty weather to settle down, and the wind to back off. April can be a blustery month, and you shouldn't expect to be able to get out every day unless you're bringing a 42'er.
Too many guys come over and only get out 1 or 2 days when the lake is dirtied up, and go home bitter about the experience. If you could stay flexable and let the weather forcast dictate when you come, you'd be wise to go that way.
Good luck, good fishing, and COME ON SPRING!!!

Hay warrior don't let know one talk you out off coming to lake erie to fish. If it's to windy to fish the lake then fish the maumee river for walleyes Saw more 10 to 15lbs fish caught there then in lake erie in last 30 years. You may have to fight the croud but all the guys that fish there are real sportmans and I camp at buttonwood around that time of year.A run to the lake is 45 mins. from where we camp at. We all ways have more fun then we are allowed to have. We all have big walleyes mounted on the walls and now all we keep is the eaters size ones. SPOILLED I gess. can't wate for warm weather. the dearhunter1955
