Being new to the sport of trolling I have purchased the Luhr Jensen size # 0 dispy diver. I don't understand how they attach to the line. I have 10 ft. dispy rods from Berkely and snubbers on the dispy's. Some questions-
1- does the weight go to the back of the dispy and the snubber on the back, also?
2- What is the normal lead off the dispy to the lure?
3- by turning the weight to the different #'s ( 1 to 3 ) how far will these go to the side on 10# test?
4- also is there a web site I might be able to go to in order to better understand this?
5- scince I also have jet divers and don't know
how to use them could I get a little help on them also.
6- I have fish seekers also and need help on them or do they work just like jet divers?
7- will the dispy's and jet divers and fish seekers detach from the line or will I have to fight them along with the fish, ( hopefully )?

Thanks to all who answer.

Whoa !!! lots of questions. Dipsys: The line from the rod goes on the wire that snaps in and out of the dipsy (the weighted side). This snap in wire should unsnap at about 2&1/2 # pull for calm water and as much as 4# for rough water. The snubber goes on the other end, and then the leader (we calll them jumpers). Usually 5 - 10 feet long, with 6' being a good overall average. If you use anything but a superbraid line your making your life more difficult than it needs to be. 30 # test is the most common. The jumpers are usually 12 - 20 pound test depending on where you are and what kind of salmon is likely to eat your spoon. So far as how far out a 1 setting or 2 or 3 will go that is depending on the speed your trolling, the line and how far back you run it. Dipsy do release, jets don't and fish seekers do. Hope this helps. Good luck. You would probably be well advised to try and find somweone who is up on Dipsys to go with you a time or 2 and show you the ropes. Again good luck.

Easy one.

On the diver there is a straight arm that flips from the front of the diver to a locking slot. When you buy the diver there is a flathead screw that must be turned to set the locking arm in.

The diver also has a split ring on the other end this what you attach a snubber to. Then put your leader and lure on the other end of the snubber.

Attach everthing from your rod tip to that locking arm with a good ballbearing crosslock swivel.
Also put a swivel on the very end of the snubber that is ther lure end.

If using spoons make sure the spoon nas a split ring and add a good swivel there too.

Swivels allow for removing the diver off the rod when not in use.
The bottom of the diver has a weight just turn it so the marker lines up with 1 thru 2 1/2.
If running it on the drivers side looking at the bottom reading the numbers turn it to the right.

The big yellow ring is for extra depth.

1) #####://www.luhrjensen.com/ go to Tech Tips & Dipsy Diver
2)around 4 foot +- a foot depending on your rod length
3)On 10# test you'll be losing a few of them. The dipsy puts alot of strain on line, knots...I wouldn't go any lighter than 20# test. A superline like Cabela's Ripcord 30#/8 dia works really well and will last at least a few seasons. They travel to the side of the boat & fill in the corners of the boat between the flatlines off the back & planer boards off the side. Running two divers per side is no problem with one set on 0.5-1 and the other at 1.5-3.
4) see 1)
5) see 1)
6) Boy you've got all kinds, Never used fish seekers
7) They'll detach from the line if you use 10#. With 20# and up you'll be fighting the diver & the fish when you bring it in. The divers release on a hit and no longer are hard to pull in, but you'll still have the weight to deal with on the line.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Need to investigate this more. Will go with superlines. I think I am missing parts that snap in and out of the dipsey's. everything seems to be welded to the dispey. I see the flat head screw on the side , but there is nothing in the slot. Need to find someone to show me exactly what I have and how they are used. I have the presision trolling book so after I learn how to use them I will start to experiment with them. Once again THANKYOU for all the help.

OK- I got the idea!!! took long enough, the luhr jensen web site helped out. not missing any parts. One other question thought. How do you find out the proper # of pull on the dispey? I mean how do you know it is at 2.5 #'s or 4.0 #'s? for the release of the dispey. Thanks again. JJ

Use your scale that you weigh fish with. Hook it into the swivel and pull straight away while watching the pointer. As it goes to 2 1/2 pounds the dipsy should pop. After you do it about 15o times you'll know just by the feel of it. Good luck.
