I know the new Daiwa line counters now have ball bearnings but I was wondering how much of a difference they will make. Will they help out with the drags? That's the one area I have not been impressed with the reels. I have last year's 27LCW's. Thanks.

Is there a way to tell the difference? If so, please explain.

I bought 2 27's late Nov, just wondering what I have.

Thanks in advance.

Although I'm not certain, I believe the Daiwa linecounters in the Saeline series have always had ball bearings and were not changed. Daiwa did come out recently with the Accudepth series which uses teflon impregnated washers for a friction type drag. They are less expensive (by about $40) than the Sealines.

The reason I ask is due to the posts on the "Swap" board that has both the 2003 and non-2003 models for sale. So I assume there is a difference...???

Anyone?

The sealines have ball bearings. The accudepths have bushings. The old (pre 2003) sealines had bushings also, but had an automatic clutch. The new accudepth does not have an automatic clutch.

pre 2003 SG27LC
2003 SG27LCA

The A signifies the bearing model. They are smoother but the reason I am selling mine is that I want the 17s for Walleye and I am using the Tackle Plus Power Pak reels for my big water fish. The old SGs were plenty smooth, the new ones are just a little better. Probably could not tell a difference.

The auto clutch is a big deal for me and I don't know if I will ever get one without it.

The old SG series Sealines have been upgraded to use bearings instead of bushings. The new Accudepth series reels use the same bushing set-up as was used in the SG's. They are a great value at this price. They also have the automatic level windwind engage when you reel the handle. They both use teflon impregnated felt washers for their drag system.

The Accudepth does have an automatic clutch or engage trip for when you start reeling. They operate exactly like the SG series reels.

The Accudepths do have the automatic clutch if that was your deciding factor. Appears from your post though that you wanted the slightly smoother reel in the form of the SG.
