A recent post on this site mentioned a rumor about the Producer Co.'s (makers of Willies Worms) plans to produce a replica Hot-N-Tot . Saw another post on another site backing that up & also gave phone # to Kalamazoo location . Went to K-Zoo plant & talked to rep. Super nice people ! Sure enough , patent lawyer is working out details . She said the biggest obstacle was picking out a name ! Cant use old tot name (Copyright laws). Kind of ironic , Storm changes their product to make it more like a willies worm (except Storms plastic lip is inferior from what I hear , I won't buy one ) , & Producers end up with the old patent . Maybe their is justice after all . Producers have excellent quality in their products , used their WW's for years for winter steelheading , tough cond.'s , no prob.'s . And tons of colors , too . I counted 65 colors as opposed to how many for tots ? Some are old discontinued tot colors to boot . Maybe there is something to this "give people what they want" , after all .

Hey mudpuppy,
Where did you find that Kalamazoo number at? All I can find is an international number.Checked out there some of the product, got to say that the theyve got some nice baits and good colours as they say it.Some of the stuff is way too big for walleyes, but curious to find out some more info.

Any chance this company will also begin producing the old thundersticks along with the Hot n Tots? The old T-sticks are getting really hard to find now.

On a trip to Saginaw Bay 2 years ago we ran HotnTots on one side of the boat and Willy's Worm's on the other side, both on Offshore planer boards, we caught 12 walleyes that day, 8 on WW and 4 on the Tots, I've been using WW more since that day and continue to catch a lot of fish on them. Two colors seem to be better than others, Black Back/Silver and Orange topside, yellow bottom. #566

The new name could be Not Hot-n-Tot.

Do you know if they will be making the rattle tot also? This sounds like good news!

I have no idea if they are planning on immitating the rattle tot but odds are you can e-mail the company and they could tell you. The rattle tot too would be great but I'll settle for teh hot'n tot right now.

I have not seen them in the water, but it looks completely different. The action is different according to others I have talked to. Was at a Keith Kavajecz seminar on Tuesday and he showed a short video of the lure under water. It didn't look as crazy on the wobble but it definetely still had the erratic hunting side-to-side kickouts to each side. I'm still not going to run out and buy them but my position has mellowed to a more wait and see stance. Mark Romanack, of Precision trolling fame, said that their testing shows that it runs about 2 ft. deeper than the original 1/4 oz. tots at 100 to 120 ft. back.

To sum it up; tighter action, still kicks out, runs slightly deeper, Color choices still cut to nothing we can't get from someone else.

Hi,
Does any one know how deep a Willys Worm runs compared to a 1/4 hot an tot.

marcbodi,

I havn't done any scientific testing , but in my experience in river fishing , the 1/4oz. Willies Worm gets a little more depth than the same tot (maybe 2 feet). I'm not a pro fisherman nor do I have any big dollar sponcers , probably never will . I don't have any loyalties to any lure mfg. co.. All I know is what I've leared on the water . WW's are a durable lure that catches fish at about $1.00 apiece cheaper than it's competitor , with 65 colors . That extra dollar apiece is for advertising , marketing , making video's etc...

SuperTroller, another problem is the lip which is attached to your line is known to break off. I would hate to be in a tournament or just fishing and get a nice fish close to the boat and have the lip come off. Enough fish are lost at the boat without that happening.

Some new tots appear to have a metal lip, but it is only a coating of metallic flake. they must be browsing this site! watch out.

Thanks for checking into that for me, Mudpuppy. I was the one who actually posted the "rumor", if you will. But I really hate dealing in rumors like that based on second hand information. Sometimes you get egg on your face.
