I have been using Shimano reels for a while and have not tried any other brands. So I was looking thru the latest Cabelas catalogue and looking at some other brands. I have been using the Shimano Aero Symetre and like it, but was disipointed with the spare plastic spools, how would the Pinnacle Tactic HS,Fin-Nor Steel River, Pflueger Solara or even some of Cabelas reels compare to Shimano.

Thanks Moreyes

of the newer reels i havent found any better. i find the new quantum catalyst pretty nice but i havent used one. lcfisherman had some problems you can see on the gen disc page. i liked the older deadbolts but ive heard lots of complaints on the new ones.

Daiwa.

Larger diameter spools = longer casts and less line memory. Relative light weights in 1500 & 2000 series. Samurai 7bb model for $29 at Gander
is an incredible bargin. $100 +/- models are very nice. Be careful with the "air bail" models as they can be knuckle whackers. Most all of the newer reels are very smooth too.

I've switched over to mostly Daiwa now from Shimano. When Shimano offers a larger diameter spool at a lower weight, I'll take another look.
