View Full Version : Preparation H - before fishing!!!
Bring along a tube or bottle of prepration H when fishing.
Before baiting any hooks, rub your hands well with the prepration H.
One of the major ingrediants of this material is shark liver oil.
It is a great cover up - for all of the smells that fish don't like. It also seems to cause them to increase their predatory instincts.
Now, another very nice side benefit, of keeping this material on hand, is that it does probably a better job of keeping your hands in good shape - compared to most other lotions on the market.
As you all know, after handling a bunch of fish, rinsing, soaping etc. it seems that all of the moisture and oil just leaves your hands, and you are left with cracked claws at the ends of your arms at the end of a weeks fishing.
Use prepration H liberally on your hands several times a day, when fishing. This not only gives you a built in scent, but it keeps healing your hands and keeps them from cracking - just as if the lotion were applied for its design purpose of healing those problems!!
Actually, I am not kidding. This material does work just as I discussed it above. Give it a try.
Take care

REW You are right, this stuff is good for your hands and when the waters cold put a dab on your bait. It stays on fairly well and can entice the walleyes to bite. I have had good luck with it on numerous occasions. We call it "Lucky Butt". :)

Well...OK...I'll try it. But I am going to have to cover up the name on the tube...the guys just wouldn't understand ;) Hey REW, does it leave a residue on the things you touch after using it and will it stay on your lures after using them to the point where you have to wipe them down befor putting back in the tackle box?
The big H stayes on reasonably long.
If desired, especially for lures, it makes sense to wipe down any bait, after applying anything just to minimize residu build up.
I never worry about jigs, since the box life of jigs tend to be more limited than lures.
I don't find that there is any problems with the stuff fouling the line or reel at all.
Take care and -- "stay soft"

I agree this is a good cover up, and you can also buy shark liver oil
capsules at the pharmacacy. You can put these on your jigs and will last all day. They are soft to touch. Awesome on crappies.
Been using them for years.

For you gals....after rubbing the Prep H into your hands, rub around the areas of wrinkles. Makeup artists have used this for years as a mini face lift. The effects are only temporary.

OK, as no one asked, I have to. HOW DID YOU FIND THIS OUT??? What was the circumstance BEHIND the discovery?
One word
Hearsay.
I heard it from a friend, of a friend of a friend.
That is my story and I am sticking to it.
Take care

I heard it was attributed to Leon Houle many years ago. He knows about it, but when asked, he just smiles, shakes his head and walks away!
You guys are killing me!
My favorite cover scent is to take a couple of fresh shiner minnows and mash them up good between my hands...
Thats the ticket.

I want to know who was the first person to put shark liver oil up his butt to get relief and how many other things did he try before he got to 'Shark Liver Oil'?!!

thats a no-win situation....'no honey, i didnt mean you were a
hemroid, i just thought it would help the wrinkles on face'...you
may miss an entire fishing season depending on where the broken
bones occured...

That explains why they look so good late at night, and look like heck the next morning...
Here all these years I thought it was the booze...

Did you ever hear the one about the Pro and his amateur partner. The Pro had never heard of the new trick of putting on a little prep-H on the crankbaits. The amateur had some prep-H with him and he asked "ever heard of preperation H?" The Pro answered with a weird look on his face " I've heard of it". Then the amateur said "Works pretty good doesn't it?" The Pro answered "Ya, I quess it works pretty well. Then the amateur says "Want me to put some on for ya?"
Luckily there wasn't a fist fight in the boat. They both got it figured out and had a a good laugh.

I'd make that an arms length and a half. And, O, BTW if I were a little fishy and smelled me a big fishy, like a shark, I'd be makin' for my hole ASAP. That'd be like wearin' bear grease in a deer stand, wouldn't it?
