View Full Version : Global Map 3200 & HotSpots Problem

Yesterday I purchased the Navionics HotSpots MMC for my Global Map 3200. Installed it yesterday, switched the map data setting to Wisconsin...no problems and everything worked fine. Go fishing this morning, turned on the unit and everything is still fine. About an hour into fishing, a message appears on the screen saying "Invalid MMC format" or something to that effect, and the screen went back to the Lowrance default. I then tried turning the unit on, off, took the card out, reinstalled it, etc. Still the same crap. So, I took the card back and replaced it with a new one. Same thing.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm hoping I don't have to send the unit back to Lowrance. Is there a way to completely reset the unit?

Let me know what you guys think.

Did you call lowrance's help line? Have your unit handy and give them a call. 800 324 1356

They will probably want you to try working through the problem while your on the phone.

Bummer. I have yet to try any MMC chips in my LMS-320, so I can't help you there. Page 87 of your manual shows the steps to reset all features to factory defaults. Hopefully that will do the trick. Otherwise, as suggested, give Lowrance a call.

One other thought - the GM 3200 had a software upgrade (version 1.1.0) come out 4/23/03. If you are not currently running this version, it may help to upgrade.

Also, see post by "Out of Options" on Boats and Motors page.

UnsungChip,

If you purchased a Navionics 2003 HotSpots MMC card, the problem is not with your Lowrance. I had the same problems and called Lowrance tech service on Monday. The problem is with the MMC. Apparently, Navionics switched their supplier for all of the 2003 cards, not just the HotSpots maps, and now they are having issues. I am supposed to call Lowrance on Thursday (May 1st), and they hope to have an idea how they will resolve the issues. I hope they get it worked out and can send me a replacement before Minnesota walleye opener on May 10th. When the card worked, I loved it and I hope they get it straightened out soon. I will post to the Boats and Motors forum when I know more.

Good Luck,
O3

I bought the Lakemasters Reelbottom mmc w/one foot contours. I know these are made by Navionics. I asked Lakemasters about this problem they said they have tested many mmc chip before they released it to the public. They told me they had no problem like this. We will see. I will get the chip by the beginning of next week. I will post if I have any problems.

Fyi All;

The problem with the mmc cards does not affect all units. The only units that are affected are the 320 units from Eagle and Lowrance. Both are working our a software update for release in the next few weeks that will solve the problem. Not all of the Navionics chips that are are red and blue are bad. The only chips there have been problems with are the e-film MMC's with the "split" bottoms (contacts side)-1/2 smooth, 1/2 matte finish. Navionics is no longer using these chips in production. Other chips (Sandisk and eFilm) are NOT affected. You can call Navionics at (800) 848-5896 for additional info.

My Navionics LakeMaster which I just received is on a Sandisk card. I take it by your post that I should not expect any operational difficulties with this chip in my LMS-320 or 3200. Thanks!

I just got my Navionics Lakemaps mmc today. So if I am reading this correct I should not have any problems with my 3200. I think mine is the scandisk.

I spoke to the folks at Navionics and they indicated that there have been no problems with the Sandisk chips in the 320 series, so we should be in good shape. I didn't get a chance to play with it last night, but will report my success (or lack thereof!).

Dave,

Which Lake Masters mmc did you get? I got the one w/4 lakes with one foot contours. I was going to check mine out but it was raining last night.

I got the ReelBottom 1 ft series as well. I plan on playing with it tonight or tomorrow.
