All,

What is the importance of the solunar tables on fishing? I have fished for years but never believed much in it. Is it something to consider or is it not as important as other factors, like the weather? I'm curious because my annual fishing trip to Canada is during one of the weakest weeks of the month of June.

I guess first off I'll say that the best time to go fishing is anytime you can. I will add however that I lived on a small lake for about 15 years and fished it 200+ days a year. I kept a diary of how, when, where, how big etc.of each game fish caught. When I went back and reviewed the results, I was surprised. I definitely caught more walleye during the projected correct times and days. I tended to catch more, smaller walleye during the full moon phases and fewer but larger walleye during the new moon phases. Do I believe it helps? YES. Do I only fish when the tables (my watch has the tables) say to. NO.

Pete,..what is the name of that watch? I saw one a year ago but don't remember the name ,..tried in vain to buy one for a gift this year. Any idea where you got it?

Casio makes the fishing time watches. The solunar tables are printed every two months in Field & Stream. The June issue will have the tables for June and July. I have also checked fishing success against the tables and found them to be an accurate forecast of the "bite".

"Having lines, we proceeded to the fishing banks, a little [outside] the harbour, and fished for Cod; but it not being a proper time of tide, we only caught two." --- George Washington (from his diary, published 1789)

Harmon, the watch is made by Casio and is called the Forester fish-n-time. I picked mine up at K-Mart for about $30. I've seen them at Wal-Mart also and they used to be in Cabela's catalogue. I am actualy on my fourth one as I've lost one, given one away and have one of the old style (no light) as a backup.
