I sprung for a Beckman net, but now I am somewhat concerned about it fallin the water. Has anyone ever spayed foam into the handle of a net to make it float? I am not sure if this would work or not. Other ideas?

Thanks.

I have sprayed foam in. It works. Doesnt float like a boat, but stays close enough to the top so you can grab it. Works for me, better than buying a new net.

i did basically the same thing by jamming small pieces of styrofoam in and then ramming them forward and adding more till it was filled. the net now floats

I 2nd the post on cutting up pieces of styrofoam and stuffing into the handle (both sides).
A lot less messy, that working with the spray in foam. The spray in foam is nearly impossible to get off any thing - including your hands.

p.s.
The net doesn't float high, but it doesn't sink, and it can be retreived.

Would those styrofoam peanuts work that you always get in packing?

I think that they would be ideal.
Not only that, your wife or special other will thank you since the peanuts won't be on the floor any more.
Stuff the handle, and then give the net a test - with a like tied to the net, in case it doesn't work. It should work just fine.
Don't overstuff the handle, because you will then take the air out of the peanuts and you will lose your flotation.

You can add more flotation capability by wrapping the net handle with foam bicycle handle bar "tape". Also makes for a nice grip if hands are wet.

Be careful,

Some of the packing peanuts out there today are Eco-friendly, they dissolve in water!!!!

Not all peanuts are like this, but I have tested some and they do dissolve when placed in water.

Before all this styrofoam discussion started, I was thinking of adding a float like you find on a drift sock. Still might do that if the foam doesn't float it completely - might be hard to find in wavy conditions.

I did a quick Google search looking for floating landing net or floating fishing net and found trout nets that fit that category. I didn't see any other nets advertised with that quality. I cann't say I'm familiar with all the choices out there. You would think a floating landing net would be a natural and advertised by the manufacturers and suppliers. I know there is a floating wrench for changing boat propellers. Cann't nets be made to float without having to add styrofoam or a float too.
