View Full Version : How do you use blade baits primarily
I posted a previous message on blade baits and appreciate the responses. I was wondering how many of you use blade baits for casting or trolling as opposed to slabbing. The advertisements say they are effective for casting and trolling but my guess is the overwhelming use is slabbing(vertical jigging). Am I correct??
Again thanks for all the info and Web sites. I am $120 lighter but should have a nice stock of Vib-E, Silver Buddy's, Zip's, and Cicada's, to last a couple years.
Lake Erie last april we jigged 3\8oz ZIp lures for walleyes. Lake Erie last july around islands we casted for smallmouth w\ 1\4oz ZIPs. in the rivers we vertical jigged the ZIPS. Above applications w\out tipping the ZIP lure w\ bait.Trolling 1\2oz zips worked on Lake Winnebago in WI for walleyes in june.
good luck

I would say the majority of the time Jigging is preferred. However casting, for me, is done frequently. I have never trolled with them.
Vib E's and Silver Buddys are great. I've never seen a zip lure and, in my opinion, you can throw cicada's in the trash.
I have to respectfully disagree with the point about the Cicadias.
This is pretty much my go to blade bait. Lots of different species of fish on this fine blade bait - during many different times of the year.
Match the size and action of the blade to the mood of the fish - and they work very well indeed. Never tip them with anything - if you do, it will completely kill the action of the blade and make them worthless.
Take care

Hi,
A Lot of Charter Boats in the Spring use Blades with minnows or twister tails on the bottom while jigging.

These blade baits can be used in various techniques. Jigging,Trolling, or Casting with slow or fast retrieves. The main thing is to go out and have fun with your new baits. You will have to be the one to determine what works on that particular day or situation. Remembering these baits are creating reaction strikes. So when the fish hit they really pound your lure. (These baits really work great in any stained water application.)

I used zip lures on lake winnebago in all the applications that eyes-guy talked about and did very well on the walleye.
