When I go fishing with my dad we use 2 poles each, the max. But we don't really have any rods designated to eachother. WHoever sees a bite takes it. Im from North Dakota.

In a 2-rod province, there is no regulation covering the designation of a particular rod to a particular person. On charters, it is often done sequentially ( i.e. we each get to fight every other fish.) No one touches my new custom made rod, though! :)

That is perfectly fine in ND to use 2 lines each.
The law reads as such in ND.
"An angler must remain within 150 feet of his/her fishing equipment and must check it at least once per hour."
So it is cool, just be sure both of you check them from time to time,

If the law says 2 rods per person, times how ever many people X 2 and things should be status quo. In general only Tip-Up's used for ice fishing have to have your own personal ownership and designation on them in my state of Mich.

You are "safe". Everybody does like you do. I betcha, when you were little, your Dad let you reel ALL of the fish in. My Dad used to let me. Then when I got old and had kids, I let my kids reel all of them. :)

Dad let me shoot all the ducks when I was young, too. Then when I got older...he just "let" me pluck all of them :)
Whadda guy!

Yah, and my dad and uncle "let" me clean their shotguns after grouse hunting, too. I laugh about it now, but it was a big deal to me then at age 10. I had to stand inspection, too, as they ceremoniously held the barrel up to the basement light to check for pits and powder and prior to letting me oil the barrel. 'Course, they had to put down their beers first.
