Whats the theory on spring minnows ? I assumed that the population would be down considerably after a long winter of being preyed upon but our local river here (Tittabawassee) is full of shiners just like summer.
Is this an odd year or have I just not noticed in the past? I do know that there never was ANY minnows left in my pond - come spring.

thanks,

Steve.
I'm thinking you may be seeing some of the (Young of the year) in the river right now. Grays, Blues and river dace have been know to spawn early under the ice in some casses. And I've noticed lots of them in all sizes, in virtually all season up on the Tittabawassee. They do like to stack in there at the boat launch thought don't they?

The thing that the river has been missing the last few years though, is the hords of aliwife that used to stack in there in the fall. That was when the walleyes would push up the farthest and the earliest fallowing them into all the river systems.
