For me, it'll be somewhere in the Bemidji area - Cass, Bemidji, Andrusia or Wolf, depending on weather conditions.

One of the small lakes in southcentral MN, hopefully the least crowded one I can find.

I will be sitting on my deck with a few beers. I can wait until Monday or Tuesday when the lakes will be less crowded.

I think I am going to try Big Sandy north of McGregor. Have had some good fishing there in the past, usually crowded but not unbearable.

Tackleman,
Yup, Ranger 617, Burgundy with gold stripes. What color is yours? If the weather is really good, I've really done well on Cass in the past and would like to go there. If there's a cold front, I'll probably hit one of the other lakes that is less clear/deep. With a name like Tackleman, do you run one of the local tackle shops?

I will make the traditional 25 minute drive to Lake Minnetonka for the opener. Usually do well with big crappies, bass, northerns, and an occasional walleye.

We always catch a lot of fish, and that's what my usual crew enjoys the most. Not a lot of walleyes, but the crappies make up for it.

Anyone else hitting Tonka? Let me know and we can radio each other. I usually monitor channel 71.

Lets hope for nice weather, most of the guys I fish with only tolerate about an hour of rain, even with the bimini top up.

Good luck to everyone. I can't wait.

I'm going out Sunday and Monday, probably to one of the lakes that have special regs on northerns. I have heard that some of the experimental lakes have 20 pounders in them. Catching a 20 lb northern without going to Canada would be REALLY COOL!!! And if I catch one, I'm lettin it go!

Venice and Malta. There I said it, the girl friend won. The ottertail eyes are going to get off real easy this year.

Minnetonka. I live on Mille Lacs the rest of the summer. If I miss the party opening weekend, it's no big deal. Too many YaHOOOOOS for my liking!

Xplorer,
I was just thinking about blocking off my calander for that weekend and the early part of the week. I am not sure if I can take the time off yet, but I am going to try and make up there. If Kettle Falls is booked, I may stay somewhere on Kab, possibly Ash Trail Lodge. Otherwise I may tent it, but the weather can be nasty for tent that time of year.

Hope to see you up there, and good luck to you over opener. I'm sure you will not have any trouble catching walleyes on Kab/Nam/Rainy over memorial weekend.

Mothers Day should be changed so it won't interfer with our holiday so much!! Luckly, my mom still fishes so I don't really have a problem.:)

Greg,
Yup, i hear you on the weather. Despite that, we will be tenting it for the weekend. My in-laws will be going up on thursday morning to get us a site and we'll be going up friday evening to join them. I hope that the weather halfway cooperates as this will be the first camping trip with our son (10 months now) so being stuck in the rain/wind for 4 days would not be good!! We are also looking at 2 long weekends later in the summer.
Talk to ya later.

Hey Otter, I've appreciated your posts on the 617, spped, prop, storage, etc. I just bought mine, a 2003 617 w 150 Opti. Forest (Emerald?) greed with gold stripes. Awesome boat. The name comes from the business, Phelps Tackle Company, ya know, Phelps Floaters, etc..... I'll be on Bemidji I'm sure. I have friends that do great at Cass as well, some guys from the North American Fisherman, ad sales dudes. Good folk. See ya there and good luck.

I have a few Phelps Floaters in the arsenal. I just drove by Cass today, and felt a strong urge to start there if this good weather continues. Cass has been my "go to" lake the last couple years. If I don't see you on Bemidji opening day, I'm sure I'll be there several times later in the year.

What Up Tackleman and Otter -
Looking forward to getting in the boat with you tackleman. Notice I didn't capitalize your name. That happens after you get your first walleye of the year. Otter, hope you have your wish and get to Cass, but if you don't, we will see you on Bemidji sometime throughout the weekend. Remember, It Helps to Use Phelps!!
