do a search of the chatroom, we've had a few chat's on handlining. juls wrote an article also. bruce de shano (the chairman) has some info/articles on his "offshore tackle" site plus bruce sells the equipment. the www.dwfonline.com has some articles on making weights etc. (downriver walleye)
hope that helps

Thanks for the info. After reading the article it Sounds like something you have to be shown to learn how to do it right.

Let's see... I think it goes lift and drop, lift and drop, lift and drop. Now repeat.

"nothin's finer than to be a handliner"

{I made that up, you probably could tell;) )

Don't forget, swing the boat to the right, swing the boat to the left, swing to the right, swing to the left, right, left, right, left . Hutch

Heheheh...Hutch, it sounds like you and Eric just made up a new dance step...;-)

Hey Whit,
Where do you fish? If I'm in the area, I would be happy to show you how to handline. You're right. It is easier if you're shown how to do it rather than try to figure it out by yourself.

Walleye Insider had a good 6 page article on handlining back in Jan. of 2001 and the NAFC mag had another good article on it back in the April or May 2001 issue (I think...it was around that time.) Steve Pennaz the CEO of NAFC handlined the Illinois river with Rick LaCourse last year at the MWC Spring Valley Tourney, so it was written after that event. You could try calling Steve at the magazine and ask him what issue that was.

There is also a link somewhere on the net with a good article from a Detroit River angler, but I don't have the link on my new laptop. It's in my favorites folder on my old puter which is in storage at the moment. ;-)

For those interested, this months walleye-insider has an article on "polelining". A good alternative since handlining isn't allowed in all tournaments.

BTW, great article Juls.

Juls Thanks for the info/ I'll pull out my back issue of walleye insider. I fish the Illinois River, Live in Ottawa. The Ottawa Pool has been hot this year with Big Fish and alot were walleye. Last
year saw 2 guys pre fishing the tournament that were handlining. That must have been Pennaz and LaCourse because I haven't seen anyone else using that technique around here.

I was handling at the MWC. Did fairly well considering it was our first time using that technique. Left the jig poles at home and learned how to use them in a hurry.

I don't think you saw my offer, so I'm bringing this back to the top since you don't have an email listed here for me to do so privately.

Hey whit... I'm a handliner from the St. Clair River area in MI. Once you get the hang of it you will really enjoy it. My buddy tried for years to get me to try it as we most often drift fished with the strong current here for walleyes. He told me how to do it and a old timer gave me an old victrola ? recoil off an old record player. It had old cat gut covered steel line on it. Well we went out finally one night myself in my fourteen footer and my buddy in his fourteen footer. About two hours later I had limited out and have been enjoying the art ever since. Here is an article that might help www.fishtheriver.com/articles/handlining.html Good Luck! Brent

whit, if your ever in the southern part of WI. - Praire-du Chien area I would gladly spend some time with you also. As the people above have stated it's a fun way to fish!!!! There's just something about bringing a fish in without a rod that gets me going. Hutch
