I would like to catch my first walleye next weekend when we will be fishing the Illinois area of the Mississippi. I'm a 12 year old, though fairly advanced in fishing, and will be fishing from shore. I'd rather catch a lot of eating-sized fish fast, than a few big ones. Thanks very much for any information you might have.

dont know to much about the body of water that your fishing but i would like to wish you the best luck and hope you enjoy walleye fishing as much as i do !!
Sounds good to me, but sometimes the fish cooperate, and sometimes they don't. If they don't, enjoy your time in the great out of doors.

Hey Peter,
Here is hoping your first walleye is bigger than my first walleye was. Mine tipped the scales at a whopping 9 inches!
You did not say where on the Mississippi you'd be fishing, and did not clarify what "next weekend" was.
If you are fishing the Dubuque area, pay attention to the clam beds and wing dams right along the city shoreline. Some easy fish can also be verticle jigged along the rip rap from the Hwy 11 bridge to the train bridge on the Wisconsin side. As a quick for instance.
Even if this post is too late, good luck and tell us how you did.
Hope to hear about your trip soon......R
