Looking for opinions on the High Falls Flowage for a fishing vacation spot this year. Have never been there, wonder if this is a good walleye fishery, and how the surroundings are, etc.looking for "northwoods" type of environment typical of Minnesota, but needed to be a little closer to home this year. Would this be a good alternative? Also would take any recommendations on any resorts here that offer good service, docks, etc.
You will LOVE IT!

High Falls is Beautiful!! Sandstone out croppings, beautiful scenery and lots of fish. Popps Resort is your one stop shop! cabins bait restaraunt and lots of great help. I went there as an alternate destination, once. Now I go a few times every year! I need a close getaway that seems like another world too, and I have never been disapointed.

Call fishing Hotspots at 1-800-ALL-MAPS and ask for Russ Warye (pronounced Where-Eye). He used to run their "Adventures" outings. One of the places they fished was High Falls and Popp's Resort was where they stayed. He will give you a straight story ... I bet it is a very positive one or they would not have continued to go back there. FYI.
Tell him Tom and Sheri say "hi".

Thanks for the tip on Popps resort. Will check it out. Wonder if you know anything about Pine Acres resort? Looked good also. Also wonder
if this flowage has many hazards like stumps and rocks etc.and if you can get to Caldron from Highfalls without much problem? Is it all navigable river between the 2?

The flowages are not connected.Impoundments of the Pestigo River system, they are seperated by dams. You must obtain the fishing Hot Spots Maps, for every structure imaginable exists. Rock reefs that just come out of now where. ( Choclate Drop on High Falls) for example.Stump fields by the river sections, shoreline wood ect. Coffee colored water, but a dude that fishes it succesfully with his buddies says it's not stained. Translucent, transparent, I'm not sure but his handle is jlong, and he knows his stuff. Tough to fish, but then again, trophy potential exists! I live a hour & a half south of this destination, but as far as I'm concerned it's Canada once on the water.Early spring - Falls spectacular! with the colors.Summer can get kind of crowded, with all the yahoo's. Check out the eatery across from Popp's resort, the steaks melt in your mouth. I can'tfind a close 2nd, as far as steak joints. RMP
