Need some help in finding a few good rods for use with wire trolling line. Seems to be the best way (at the right time of year) to catch walleyes in the Ashtabula area. They would be used mainly with stickbaits and b/j diver discs.

Tom, I run wire out of Astabula during the summer on a regular basis. Here's what I do. I run either 8 1/2 0r 10 foot St.Croix. I've taken the tips off and replaced em with TWILI TIPS. You can pick em up at a few select tackle shops, but where they are I don't know. Sorry, but I buy mine thru one of my Dist. so I've never had to hunt for them out there. Anyway it works great. You don't have to buy the rods just made for wire. There a pain with the roller guides and besides they feel like a ton. It doesn't hurt any of the other guides or ceramics and you can run mono or super lines on em too. Our best recipe last year was either thunder jr's gold and orange, deep little rippers or big reef runners in orange juice, copper head, blue berry, or a few colors of the runners I painted myself. 225 to 300 feet back off the horses. If you decide to go with these and can't find em holler at me and the next time I place an order I'll get ya some. Without looking I beleive they run around 8 or 9 bucks. They come with a series of inserts so they will fit most any tip out there. Hutch

Thanks. If you ever see the Waterbug out there, give me a holler on 68 or 14. Also, if you know of anyplace that may have a slip for rent, please let me know.
