I have used a big jon mast for quite a few years and it is very quality made. I thought the wileys mast looked cheap. Just remember you get what you pay for.

I have the Big Jon's and it is one solid piece of construction. I almost bought the Wiley's but got a close-out deal on the Big Jon's. The Wiley's are a little less "beefy" then are the Big Jons but, in all honesty, for $120 they look plenty good to me! I'd go for it but don't overlook Off-Shore equipment before you commit. They have some really good stuff too.
If you choose to get the Wiley's, and save 120 bucks, consider putting your savings into the better boards. Crappy boards will make the best-of-the-best masts look and act like junk!! I also like the laurvick releases.

Before you make your purchase take a look at the Riviera mast system with the Kachman automatic reels. They will keep tension on the turns for you so that there is not excess slack. Retrieval is simple, just move over to one board, and pick it up. Turn towards the other and go to it and pick it up that's it.
Good luck

Have to agree with Frogman, own the Riviera mast, can't be beat. The automatic reels make retrievel and turns very easy. Solid construction on the mast and base. Good luck on your purchase.

Hey range-
I think we have 2 hutchs here...
A "Guest User" started the thread and used the name Hutch, then later the registered Hutch posted. In fact a guest user posted as "Ranger" earlier tonight on the Matzuo thread that's down at the bottom of the first page right now.
I've seen my moniker used by a guest user, and it wasn't me. Guess there isn't anything to stop someone from using a registered handle as a guest.
I am a charter boat captain on lake michigan for the last 20 years if you want the best mast out there big jon it is it will last as long as you fish

No RANGER, Hutch who started this thread is not the Hutch that replied above you. Just 2 guys using the same name. That's why I kidded him about the name. I use it but don't own it so I guess anybodys got the right to use. Hutch - the ugly one LOL
