I'm going to start night fishing this summer on a very clear lake. I've got the black light, now I need the line for both casting and trolling. Was wondering what line you all like to use?

Walleye fisherman often use 4# test during the day on this lake because of water clarity. Can I use heavier at night due to the darkness?

Fluorescent mono looks clear to me. Will it be as hard for fish to see during the day as clear mono? I'd love to get double-duty out of it. Thanks.

your really chancing it with 4# you should try fire line you can get 8# in the diameter of 4.

I use fireline 14/6. I used to use the black line-but have also used the high-vis green. I really like the high-vis at night because I can see the line with the white light from my boat. That helps great in setting hooks while fishing with floats, and casting jigs. A palamor not is very easy to tie at night. Fireline is strong-when the big one is on-you'll appreciate that.Good luck-lou in Alex.

I would go with low-vis 10 lb. for trolling, if your worried about seeing your rod tip, put reflective tape strips up towards your tip and wrap tightly w/ clear packing tape.

6 lb Fireline. No unruly mono mess, you'll feel every weed you knick, ultra strong. Just my opinion. -lb

Woods.
I'm one that thinks that (Line shy) thing is overdone, especially with walleyes. Maybe on those crystal clear Creeks and Streams for Brook Trout, but walleye, Na. I've used 12 pound Big Game for the last 2 years in virtually every trolling application, both night and day. Smaller line diametor has some mechanical advatages and may allow your line to dive quicker and at steeper angles, but scareing the fish away, I don't buy it.

I am with Leechboy on the 6# Fireline, for all the reasons he listed. Plus the thin diameter allows for longer casts, the bait runs better/deeper and minimal line twists as compared to mono.

Fluorescent mono in 6# test looks like 1/4 inch rope under a black light. It is easier to tie on a jig at night under the light than during the day. It is awesome. Must use a black light.

For night fishing, it is really tough to beat the original blue florescent line.
As one of the other posters suggested, hit it with a light, and it looks like a 1/4 inch rope. Really great, when landing fish, or tracking the line on a bottom snag.

For the visabality issue, I don't use fireline, simply because it is so hard to see. Even the high vis fireline is very difficult to see at night with lights, compared to the very easy line to see in the original stren line.

The original stren line, also makes a great day time line in all waters and weather condtions. Again, very easy to see, but virtually invisable underwater. Very smooth casting line, with a reasonable amount of stretch.

Take care

The mono/super mono line I find most visible and user friendly at night is the new Berkley Iron Silk, in Hi-Vis yellow.

Flexible and durable so you also have less night time related FUBARS to mess up your serenity on the water. Spools well on spinning gear and excels on bait-casting reels. Zings of the spool very well, you get some serious yardage wile casting, with ease.

Iron Silk is one of the best new lines out for sure, I use it on all my guide rods now. Wears less, knots hold better, cast better, easy to see, what's not to like Eh?

On super-braids and visibility, Power-Pro has more color options to work with. They offer white, red, yellow, and that graphite green that is (for me) kinda tough to see at night. But if low visibility is a concern, that green stuff will do the job well. FireLine yellow is another Hi-Vis option that many like too.
