I was just comparing Joe Bucher's Peak Fishing Times Table with In-Fisherman's and they specify radically different times. Anybody have good luck with these tables, and if so, which one? Or, is it just a case of "Get in the boat Bobby" and get your line wet?

Otter:
When you say radically different, do you mean the actual hours are radically different or are the days even different?
I use Rick Taylor's Prime Times. For the sake of comparison, his charts indicate that the best fishing time for the month of Jun 03 will occur on 29 Jun at approximately 1 PM. That being said, I'm more interested in knowing which week of a month is "better" than in knowing "best" hours on a particular day.

I'm looking at Joe Bucher and In-Fisherman. Sometimes they agree a day is good, sometimes they don't. They both think June 29 would be a good day, but Bucher says 5:37 a.m. +- 45 minutes is best. In-Fisherman says 11:38-1:38 p.m. Even when they agree on a day, the times are usually radically different.

My guess is that the times listed are based on the lat/lon of the home office and these locations are different. I have the Casio watch that calculates the 2 major and 2 minor times each day. You have to input your location in lat/lon and the watch calculates the moon position, phase, sunrise, sunset and other things. If I enter another position , the times can vary significantly depending on distance. Hope you understand my ramble, it's been a looong day at work.

I like the Dan Barnett's. It works for me better than In-Fishermans. But you have to go when you can and not worry what the chart says, because you've got better odds with lines in the water than sitting at home.

I never refrain from fishing because it's not forecast to be a hot time, but sometimes I do go when I hadn't planned to go if it looks like a particularly good time.
There are two major and two minor periods each day. The exact times must be corrected for longitude and time zone. I've found the Solunar Tables as printed in Field and Stream magazine to be quite accurate for daily predictions of the hot bite.

I caught some of my biggest eye's when they claim it's the best time but I've had alot of my best days (quantity) when they claimed a not so good day. I do believe the moon phase does play a part in wild life activity. I've also had good days when I see alot of dead animals laying on the road to the lake. Bottom line is you can't catch them sitting in your living room looking at lunar table.
