If you lived in Texas(I know that scares some of you)and could go anywhere in the U.S.A. to fish a major tournament which one would be your choice and why?We are not pros but loved the USFA tournaments on Lake of The Woods and on Devil's Lake and would like to fish at least one tournament every year. Thanks!

If you enjoy team tournaments, there's only one circuit to fish, the MWC (Masters Walleye Circuit).

If you had asked this question a week ago, I would have suggested the MWC - Spring Valley, Ill. Now Sold Out.

The MWC on Lake Pepin, Sept 21 & 22 would be my next top pick.

Did you fish the USFA National Champ up on Lake of the Woods about 3-4 years ago? I think we met! I'm pretty sure there was only one boat with TX registration in town.

Yes,we had our first ever river fishing experience. It was a big learning experience. We had starter trouble every day of the tournament and couldn't make it to the weigh-in the last day.We met some great people caught some great fish.Caught my first ever muskie,(I think that is what it was) it was 34" long and I didn't even get a picture before we let it loose. We did a lot better the next year at Devil's lake.Anymore when I think walleye I think of Devil's lake...what a fishery!!!

Fish Devils Lake as a PWT amateur; learn millions; July 10-12. Better yet, get reservoir and river experience at PWT Chamberlain. Check out the great deal, fish 3 days: www.in-fisherman.com.

Consider the Iowa Walleye trail events on Clear Lake and Spirit Lake May 5 and 12. They should be super bites. In fact, at Clear Lake I'll bet the winner sorts through two dozen nice keepers this year. Then on Memorial Day weekend, it's the Okoboji Walleye Classic. It would be a kick to have you come up for it. We've had people from as far as Kansas and Colorado come up to fish these, but never Texas. If you really want to fish a team tournament, these would be good choices. I can also reccomend the amatuer expereince on either the RCL or the PWT.

Texeye,
Don't know how much vacation time you have but I would consider fishing a tournament on Lake Winnebago in June. The RCL will be there on May 29-June 1, Then the Merc Nationals June 9 & 10, Otter Street Walleye Club tournament June 15,16 then the PWT on June 19-21. Make shure to get your entry fee in as early as possible because these tournaments fill fast.

Texeye,
Have to agree with Walter. Lake Winnebago is a great tournament lake. Lots of water and lots of fish. My vote is for the Otter Street tournament June 15 and 16. It is a 300 boat tournament with payback to the top 60 teams. The Otter Street fishing club puts on one of the best run events I have ever fished. I believe the entry date is March 1st, fee is $360, and it is filled in the first two days. If you and your partner are interested, leave a Email address - I will get back to you and send an application. Us Wisconsin folks are pretty friendly, and would proably even help you get started on the lake.
Yaaall come and see us.
