Mark Romanack said that he is doing a book just for Rapala that will have all the Rapala dive curves in it. It will be available in late March. By what he said and the way he said it I understand it will only include Rapala lures and NOT anything else. I am therefore assuming Storm lures will not be included. If the Rapala book is popular enough maybe they'll want a Storm book at a later Date. I doubt though that Storm will be a viable bait company for too much longer if they keep fixing the lures for us.

EsoxProSport,

When I asked the same question a few weeks ago, someone just told me "to let out line to pull the lure until it hit bottom" & maybe snagged(my addition), and then reel back a few cranks to know what depth I was at. That response wasn't particularly insightful. If there's going to be a new book on Rapalas, there still may not be a lot of new info that isn't already covered by "Precision Trolling."

When I did a search on Tail Dancers on WC, what I read didn't encourage me to buy any more. In fact, I sold a few at a discount.

I have been told that the Taildancers have a similar dive curve as Wally Divers. When I am using a new bait, I usually match up the profile to the most comparable bait that has a dive curve. Then I do some trial and error. Which Storms are you referring to? I have the Thundercranks but they haven't got much use last season--I still use my old T-Sticks and Tots. The Taildancers are OK. I have caught more Smallies than Walleyes though. Will try them more this season.

I really like the "Precision Trolling" Book. Very Informative I wish they had every bait ever made in there!! The Taildancer worked well for me, but at a going rate of $6.99 each Its hard to become addicted to them. The Banana Shape allowed me to Bang Rocks without snagging often triggering explosive strikes. ANyone know what Brand and Type Line was used in the Book as a baseline 10 LB Test? They claim a line diameter of .013 but I have compared Brands of line and not sure which they used. I tried and like Berkleys New Sensation 10 lb. Good combination of Low Diameter, low stretch/great sensitivity.

I was referring to the Storm Thundercrank. I have not used them yet but found some great prices on them and picked some up.

All the Precision Trolling dive curves are made using Berkley Trilene XT as the "base line". This is the diameter line you compare to with whatever line diameter you are using.

Thank You..... Trilene XT has a greater diameter than most other 10lb lines. I would hesitate to use it myself on some of the smaller Crankbaits thinking it would take away from some of the lures action.

Esox,

10# Trilene XT has about the same diameter as 12# Trilene XL. The tables on pages 10 & 11 of Precision Trolling, 6th edition show the changes in depth that occur for different diameter lines.

If someone on this forum is not familiar with the book, visit:
www.precisionangling.com for information on it.

At 12' deep, going up or down by 2# test only changes the depth by about +/- 1'. I don't think changing the diameter of the line a little will effect lure action. I think what might effect it is stretch characterisitics of the line. The higher stretch of soft mono might absorb a little of the action compared to low stretch lines.
