What is the difference between sauger and walleye. Do they taste the same ?

Yes, they are both excellent table fare. Scientific name for sauger is stizostedion canadense. Scientific name for walleye is stizostedion vitreum. Both are loosely considered "pikeperch." As far as identifying characterisitics, there are quite a few. But since you're on the inet, surf up a few color photos and you'll notice the differences. And, the two are capable of crossbreeding, the hybrid crossbred is called a saugeye.

Sauger are skinnier and bite better during winter. I have no idea why they bite better in winter because their natural range extends south of the walleyes. They are fairly easy to tell from a walleye just by shape. Sauger generally look like a walleye with no appetite. From my experience, they have very close to the same habits as walleyes and are caught in exactly the same areas. Both good eating.
