I am trying to figure out where to place the rodholders in a Fisher Pro deep 16. I do pull boards, if that makes a difference. I will be using Ram 2000 holders,Two holders to a side. Do I keep them behind the drivers seat or split them up and place one in front of the console? And why?
Thanks alot.

I'm running 6, 3 per side. 2(1 each side) are in front of the console. Why? When I'm by myself and running dipsey's, I like to sit at the wheel and be able to see both rods easily. Their only other purpose for me is while jigging, I'll be up front working the trolling motor and I'll drift a harness off that holder. It's right in reach when something strikes

Just starting to walleye fish, been dedicated to stripers & hybrids the last few years. I run 8 holders on a 18' Ranger 692. 4 in front of the console and 4 behind. I always run my boards of the front most holders. I feel it lets the board get out and clear anything else I might be pulling straight out the back.

I'd like to hear other peoples thoughts on all this too. Where do you pull what.... front, back???????

Just added holders #5 & #6 to my 14' mirrocraft...on "SUPERTROLLER'S" advice I mounted mine in front of the console to run inline planers and it was a great suggestion. I run flatlines or downriggers (or a combination of both) off of the rear holders. The holders in the front also give the person sitting up there somewhere to rest a rod while drifting crawlers.

This is from a relative novice but learning. I set mine up throughout the boat before I started boards and more walleye fishing. I still like the ones by me at console, when by myself. I like one on each side up front for other than board fishing like you mention.
But now I am adding to the back 1/3 of the boat. You have it all right there to operate, just turn side to side. When i had them from front to back, you were running back and forth and up and down a lot. This came home to me in my first RCL tourney (coangler), when we caught over 60 eyes a day. Having them all in back saved a lot of running and you could lay extra rods etc. up front and not worry about stepping on them. This is esp true with 2 guys. With three you can spread out more.
Also consider at least one extra holder on each back side, so if your pattern of moving poles is to take one to the other side while landing a fish, you have a holder to put it in, rather than laying on the floor.
I will rig mine different next time.

I have a 16' single console & almost exclusely forward troll (bowmount or gas). 2 perm mount on each side behind console seats was number one priority. Why? - because I do a lot of turns & sometimes favor 4 flatlines over boards and keeping the holders towards the back keeps stuff out of the prop and in easy reach. Less hassle to shuffle rods too. Sometimes wish I had another ft of boat to get a wider spread between rods when running 4 boards but its not a major problem.

As mentioned in a prev post, front deck is storage for everything loose.

On erie I usually move a couple of rods to holders just in front of the console if we are pulling four bouncers. It is very convenient for the passinger, less so for me to reach over console & electronics. As mentioned, an extra couple of holders straight off the back is handy for shuffling rods. Lot to be said for the two different styles of downeaster clamp-ons if your ok with scratches.

My 2 cents is to budget the extra $ for a couple more bases. Prob around $5 each. 6 bases, 4 holders. If you drift fish, I'd eventually consider 8 bases.

Center 2 holders for boards ~ outside pair for F-lines.
