Or does it cover the same material but with updates?

mj,

It sounds like the 7th edition will have dive charts for several new lures.

Any news yet on a ship date for 7 ? If I recall it should be soon.

Heard the pages of version 7 will become glued together when exposed to the slightest bit of water, rendering the book virtually useless, just like version 6, version 5, etc. What a joke!

XL- Leave the book at home. Make copies of each page and tape it inside your crankbait box that matches that bait.

A fine idea. Extra work that I'd rather not have to complete, but what choice does one have? Precision trolling is an innovative, extremely useful product, but it is frustrating that the manufacturing process doesn't result in a more durable end result. I have to believe its by design........a ploy to sell more product. How many of you would spend $20+ on a shirt that disolved if you were caught in a rainstorm? Food for thought.

My 6th ed is at least 2 summers old & has went though a couple of zip loc bags when wear n' tear say to replace ... I just fold to the page I want, that I haven't memorized .. she's with me on the water just about everyday from Iceout to Ice up & is in great shape.

I hope Lewis R-traps are in the 7th ed, might be better than my homebrew!!! ;-)

"Just Remember" that the way to communicate with the fish is to drop them a line ;-)

How many books would they sell at $50 or $60 a piece? They might even have to cost more than that to use a water repellant material. I like that they have kept the cost down on each edition as they continue to update them. They have added many more dive charts with each edition and since we haven't been able to just buy updates, again because of printing costs, it has been their express purpose to keep costs down. The best suggestion is to copy the dive curves you use most often and put them in a readily accessable spot for your reference. You can then put the whole book into a Ziplock bag and only get it out when you need a different dive curve than you had anticipated. Replace it in the Ziplock as soon as you're done and it will high and dry for an awful long time. What I did was to write down my top 15 most used baits and the depth they will be at 100 ft. back. I put this on a little cheat sheet and keep it in my pocket for quick reference. I can usually figure out within a ft. or so where they are running with less line out. It gets a little tougher when I'm running longer leads out to 150 or 170,,,, some lures stop diving at lesser line lengths. I can always check the book though if I am really concerned.

Precision Trolling's express purpose is not to keep costs down, their express purpose is to sell product, period. Whether you spend your money on an updated version in search of the latest/greatest dive curve, or whether you have to replace a version that has been ruined by limited exposure to the elements, it makes no difference to them.

While the informational quality is top-notch, Precision Trolling (PT) from a physical perspective is junk. The spiral binding is cheap, and if the spiral cuts at the top of the pages don't tear, then the pages become "glued" together (hey, at least that way you still have all your pages in one place once they come out of the binding!?!?) And let me tell ya, I don't believe for one minute that upgrading the quality would double the cost to the consumer.

Because PT has a virtual monopoly on the "dive-curve" market, they are able to sell a sub-standard product. Once a competitor emerges that sells a QUALITY product at a fair price, that will change, and I know where my dollars will go. In the end, it'll all come out in the wash. In my humble opinion, selling a "disposable" product at a mid-range price point, and in the process alienating your customer base is not a sustainable business model.

Just my thoughts.....I could be wrong.....XL.

Aside from all the slams about a great peoduct...

I have been in contact with Mari Romanack. The new issue will have about 230 lures. I think she said the old one had 160 or 180 something.

Yes,as far as I know.

Their ad has been saying "version 7 now available" for a while now. I guess they should change it to reflect the truth.

Laminate the pages yourself, or take it to a copy shop to have it done.
