The screen on my Garmin 240 gets fogged up after being out for a while. Any ideas what causes this and how I can fix it? Everything seems to work okay but the fog makes it hard to read. Plus, I want to avoid any eventual damage from the moisture.

Thanks, Guys!

If you have moisture in the unit, the air tight seal has failed. Nearly impossible to dry moisture out.

Send it back to the factory. Hopefully under warranty, but they may fix it out of warranty too. Especially since you post on Walleye Central!

"Fogged up GARMIN"

Good morning!

It is not normal for you to have moisture in your FF 240. These units are designed and tested to IPX7 standards. This standard means the unit has been tested to 1 meter under water for 30 minutes, rain will not hurt the unit, a wave coming over the bow will not cause any problems, and if you accidentally drop the unit in the water and pull it back out again quickly, there will be no problems. In short, your unit was designed and built to withstand the rigors of outdoor use regardless of conditions.

I work for GARMIN and request that you get in touch with our customer service department so we can get this problem rectified. The phone number is 1-800-800-1020. Select the fixed mount marine line option and we will get you fixed up. Your unit came with a 1 year warranty from date of purchase. If your unit is out of warranty there is a flat rate repair schedule. Our turn around times are quick, averaging about 3-5 days before you have the unit back in your hands, so you should not be without your product for too long!

Thanks and please give us a call!

Thanks, Chris.

I called this morning and got the info to send it in. Your customer service seems very good.

I really like the unit (other than the fog). Previously, I was using a portable unit (by another mfgr) that was not nearly as nice.

I assume the repair service will be as good as the product.

I've had the same problem with my Gar 162. Fixed rate of $100 is stiff. Looks like a simple little problem that creates an annoyance out of an excellent unit. I was impressed with garmins service and turnaround and the fact that the 100 got me a new updated unit to replace my failed one. Would rather not have spent the c note though...

Garmin still #1 in gps: I'm proud to say that I sold my X15 on ebay to upgrade to a garmin GPS with a seperate H______________d (ex Z____m model) depthfinder!
