Which brand works best? And should you hook up to starting battery?

I have used a Guest brand charger for a couple of years and have been very happy with it. I do have the starting battery hooked up to it as well.

Think about where you would be plugging in your charger. If you have a solid electrical supply, it could affect what would be "best" for you. If you routinely plug in where extremely low voltage is a problem a switching charger like the Guest might be something to look at. For the ability to compensate the trade off seems to be a little reduced reliability and more heat generation. Their warranty support appears to be top notch though. If you have any problems they will take care of it quickly. I don't routinely hook up in low voltage situations so I prefer the linear style charger. I use a Charging Systems International three bank unit. It doesn't generate the heat and there seem to be fewer problems. I more than doubled the life of my batteries by installing the onboard unit. You will have similar results with the Guest unit. You are looking in the right direction though. A convenient on board charger will quickly pay for itself.

Nivek,

It looks like you might be new to WC? Try doing a search on "on board chargers" and you'll find several really good strings that happened in just the past few weeks. You'll get so much info, your head may spin.

Another option is to go to the small numbers at the upper right on top of a page or the lower right at the bottom of a page to scroll through the older pages.

WC did a great job of constructing this site to be user friendly. Good luck.
