Correct, some lakes, you can not troll at all, forward or backwards. The regs spell it out lake by lake.

By "correct" are you saying it is illegal to backtroll in Wisconsin generally, unless specified as legal by the regs in a specific lake?
Thats the impression you give with your answer.

All Wisconsin lakes are non-troll unless listed in Wis.regs as trolling permitted. You can use a motor to maintain a vertical drop, as a jig. Minnesota has no rule against backtrolling unless it is a motorless lake or engine sized, which you could proably count the number on your fingers, out of 5000+ lakes here that have gamefish. You can troll fore/back on any water thats between Wisconsin and Minnesota examples are Lake Pepin, St Croix & Mississippi Rivers.

Just what he said...you can't troll forward or backward on SOME Wisconsin Lakes and rivers. It's best to read the regs for the body of water you want to fish before doing any trolling. Most of the Northern lakes don't allow it. Something to do with the trophy muskie waters or something like that.

Most of the lakes in the lower region allow it. Still check the regs if you're not familiar with the rules of that lake or river.

For instance, a person could troll the Winnebago system (Bago, the upper lakes, and the Fox River, but once you get on the Wolf River, there is NO trolling allowed.
