[b] Hey, Everyone.

I wanted to chime in here about something that struck me as quit special about Rons and Mine recent Huron fishing trip. By now most have read about our great luck on the Lake. And that we used Reef Runners to catch our entire catch of 22 walleyes in the two days. But what I didn't mention, is the fact that that is all we had on. Yes, I mean we went 22 for 22 in those two days. We didn't loose one fish behind the boat, after the hit or netting the fish. And they were brought in by every means, from just one hook in the side of the mouth, to a complete swallow job.

A few months ago I posted that I was not in love with the Reef Runners, because here on Saginaw Bay they dove to deep and wouldn't come up when they became weeded. Weeds being a big problem we have recently had to deal with on the Saginaw Bay. This would still be my complaint using them here and now. But they have a deffinent nitch on Lake Erie. And I found a new respect for both thier fish catching ability and well as the great fish holding hooks put on these lures. They have really found the unique balance of size, action, colors, and design with these lures. And have not skimped with the quality of the components attached to them as well. Ya know, I'm alomost happy I don't live closer to Lake Erie and Huron, Ohio. Because I'd have to make another AWFUL BIG investment in 4 of every color Reef Runner. :D

Dan, I understand exactly where you're coming from. Last year, when I got to my first WC get together, I had zero Reef Runners. By the time I left 3 days later, I had a pretty good selection of around 50. After this year's purchases, I don't think I want to know how many I have. They indeed are a great lure.

p.s. did the pictures I took of you and your partner saturday night come out alright ? Nice catch.

You took some great picture with that foreign Digital Camera I forced you to use. I won't tell Kodac your running around behind her back. :D.

E-mail me, and I'll send the ones you took of us. Rmanyen@aol.com

Pete,

Wow! 50 at a time will set you back a little! Do you know that you have one less than you thought? I've still got a pretty Barbie RR in my boat! I guess you have to fish with me again to get it back.;-) It was good to meet you. You're welcome on my boat anytime.

Capt Dan,

You're right,RRs are a really good lure. I just wonder if you ever gave them a chance up there. I know how some baits seem like local favs (like the Hot-n-tot) also will work elsewhere. Did you get to try any Deep Little Rippers or Ripshads? It was good to meet you Saturday.

Thank's for the help at the Basin. Isn't very often when your the last one to get a slip, that it turns out to be the very first one near the parking lot.

Couple years ago I bought about 3 dozen little rippers in all the Saginaw Bay colors. I liked the idea of the smaller ones, as they most closely imitated the favored size our Bay walleye seem to prefer in the summer months. Our real problem here is when we get a good blow, it breaks a lot of the weeds off their parent plant and they come floating to the surface. Then as you troll along they hit your line and work their way down to your lure. Also, most places we fish are often 12 foot or less depth wise. By mid summer some weed patches can grow as much as 8 to 10 feet up in the water column. Using rubber bands like I do for releases, I can tell when my Hot-N-Tots or Rattle Tots are fouled with weeds. In fact the smaller tot's will pop up and run at the surface when they foul. This whole senario is a pain in the butt, but at least I know when my lures are running clean. The little rippers would not come up when fouled and dive to deep for most of my applications. And in essence, don't fit the small, short, squatty profile of our baitfish and what our eyes are looking for and have become familliar with on the Bay.

I don't have to tell you that shallower water and weeded bottoms are not part of the equation in water as deep as we fished at Huron. I also believe the Reef Runners size and damenor are closely immitating something the wallyes are zeroing in on at this time of year near the Huron area. Maybe the huge schools of perch or the young of the year white bass just coming out of their adolesence. It's something like that that pulls their trigger to these lures.
