I have been hearing alot lately about jigworms for walleye fishing.I know they are 4 inch ringworms, but I would like to hear in what circumstances you use them and colors you have found effective.Do you use live bait with them or fish them mostly by themselves.I know Jans Netcraft has them but I dont want a bunch of colors I wont use. Thanks for any replys...redrnger

I've used them for years. My favorite color is smoke sparkle with a chartreuse tail. I use them a lot in clear water with no bait. I often times pinch off thye first 1/2" to 1".

Stopped using live bait 5-yrs, ago and use nothing but 4" ring worms. Fish the Mississippi 99% time from spring to ice in-took me 2-yrs to learn from my partener. Use 1/8 oz to 5/8oz various colored heads- some days just a plain head. depending on current I start with the litest head and adjust the length of the worm by cutting(bitting off) 1/4" off at a time to get the right drop rate and bottom feel. I know there are close to 100 color combos, but for our dark water we use motor oil, chart, pink, brown w/wht tail. We've use another 10 colors or so. I'd suggest you buy 10ea of 10 different colors and start working them in your area. Remember no hits in 10mins change color, change attack angle.30mins - move. Also, use Fireline. My catch rate increased because I could feel the bottom and the hit. This fall we did a little test-double rigged a floater/minnow (my son's minnow-he hasn't seen the light)and a 4" ringworm-over the side and let them jig themselves- two fish! both took the the ringworm. With ringworms you can cast, jig, troll-give'm a try and have some fun.

Don where are you using this technique? Everything I read about ringworms has a river application? Do you also use them in lakes? I would like to try this at the Miracle Mile above Pathfinder this spring.

Neal I use them anywhere I would bounce a jig. I used to use them almost exclusively at Pueblo, but I haven't been down there much in the last couple of years. I use them a lot in Lake Powell, Sebelius in KS, Trinidad and anyplace else that I can work without constant fouling in weeds or brush.

There's a guy in prairie du chein wi. by the name of hutch. www.riverwalleyes.com He's been using ringworms for close to 15 years for walleye. He sells them by the boat load all the time all around the states and Canada. Can't beleive he hasn't added to the conversation. I'm sure if you contacted him and told him where you fish he would help you out on some good colors. I know I bought a bunch thru his website, he must have close to a 100 different colors to pick from. A great guy and an excellent ringworm fisherman. Hope this helps.
