Is there a product on the market that can be used for remote steering on a kicker motor, such as a joy stick? Thank you.

Eyes gave you a link to a great product. I also use the Panther Electro-Steer and love it. It makes trolling much easier. You can also find out more about this remote steering device at www.panthermarineproducts.com

You will also hear about another product called the TR-1, which is also another remote steering device. I have used both products and I found the Panther to be more to my liking. The TR-1 was just trickier to control than the Panther, or less cooperative. The Panther has a faster response time, from side to side, and the Panther is cheaper in price, but not in quality.

Just some of my observations. Do your own research on them and figure out which would be best for you. Either way, you will greatly appreciate one of these little helpers on your boat. They're fantastic!

The Panther is a great unit. The 25' cable/remote allows you to steer from anywhere on the boat. I slip the cable thru my belt loop and have steering right at hand while setting lines, netting etc.

Can one of those be used on a 50 horse/cable-steer main motor? I don't use a kicker, just a trolling plate and I hate babysitting the steering wheel while I troll.

The Panther Electro-Steer has a maximum motor rating of 25hp.

If you look at the pdf file in the above link, the model you would want to look at is 100.101 (100 is the Freshwater Panther E-Steer and the 101 is the Saltwater version).

I've been fortunate (?) enough to be on Gilligan's boat alot and I agree that the Panther is a slick unit. Response is quick and you can make even small corrections as needed.

The TR-1 Has a new wireless remote. Fish without an umbilical cord, stop tripping over the wires. wonderful idea. Would be a wonderful X-mas gift. Hint

Don't forget the Goldeneye steering rod. Attaches your kicker to your main motor. Steer your main motor, and your kicker steers too. Easily detachable for when your kicker is tilted up while you are not using it (attaches by a spring and ball joint at each end).

Doesn't work well if you have a kicker mounted on an exterior bracket and not directly on the transom.

Here's the best part - it's about $35 and you can install in yourself in about 10 minutes using hand tools.

Follows the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle.

Hope this helps.

It's another option, yes, but he was asking about remotes. The rod is not a remote, and will keep you stuck to the steering wheel.

Remotes are much more enjoyable.

The Panther remote is a great system. Installed one this year and what a difference when out on the open water. Affordable and reliable. Fishing partner has had a TR1 for three years and when it works it is great. Problem is the thing is constantly broken down. He has spent more time repairing it, and less time using it.
