I am looking at buying a few baitcasters and have this model in mind. Any pros or cons on this reel offered by Shimanoo and where to get the best deal.

They are great reels. I have one for bass fishing and it works fine. I also have a team daiwa td-s baitcaster and I would say the daiwa casts better and is smoother, but the curado is still a great reel and is about $30 less than the daiwa. If you are looking to spend a little extra, I would look into the curado sf (super freespool) which would probably cast better and be smoother than the original curado. good luck! Oh yea, they are pretty much the same price everywhere, $120.

I have two Curados and love them for casting cranks. The casting magnets and braking have many adjustments that allows you to adapt to your casting style and type of bait. Very smooth. Fits in the palm of your hand on the retrieve. I've never had a single problem with either one. Their only shortcoming would be the lack of a flipping swith that is useful in bottom bouncing. They're OK, but you'll have to release, thumb and re-engage the spool.

Awsome reel. Only down side is no flippin switch if bottom bouncing.

A muskie fishing newsgroup's consensus was "it ain't no Calcutta". Some of the guides had hoped to save some money on tackle provided to clients, and found the Calcutta was the only Shimano that would hold up to the strain of casting their heavy lures. Granted, muskie casting is much more severe than any walleye fishing, but durability means you don't have to replace the tougher model (maybe ever).

I went with the latest, Curado*Batam*SF model. I purchased two of them. Bass Pro Shops has Rod and Reel Combinations, that runs from liked $179-199. I had to point it out in the Spring 2002 Catalog to the Counter Help yesterday to get the deal. (Auburn Hills Store)
Cabelas didn't have any in the Store and said they probably wouldn't till May because they are the fastest moving Reel right now. They suggested that if you wanted to buy it from them, to do it via Catalog sales.
Cabelas, BPS and Gander Mountain all have the reel at 149.95.

I was looking at the Carado also but it had no flipping switch for bouncers and you had to dismantle the reel to change your magnet settings for casting. If this is still the same what a pain compared to turning a dial to change your casting settings.

You are right pitts, having to take off the side cover of the reel is a huge pain and it is only a matter of time before it falls over the side of the boat.
