I used it for the first time. I know most here like the Vexilar flasher and since I never have used one, maybe I don't fully appreciate what they can do,..but as far as real time responce,..I can't see how much more it could be with the ZPG. Twitching the rod tip I could see my jig move and it sure looked like real time to me,..if it wasn't, I doubt if MY reflexs could respond any faster anyway. On bottom lock I even saw the sediment that was kicked up if I let the small jig hit the bottom. and the split screen seemed to cover quite an area that I can't imagine a fish being anywhere near the jig and not seeing it,..
I asked Zercom/Hummingbird about if it could be used in the cold and I was told that the cold didn't effect their screen like some, and it was useable to WAY below zero,..actually I don't remember exactly the temp they said ..but I remember thinking if it was that cold I wasn't leaving the house anyway,.btw I'm not very afraid of the cold (I have fished at 20 below in the past) So I guess it would handle most conditions.
Also I too thought the screen looked a little fuzzy at the store,..I really didn't notice it outside (florescent lights maybe?)
I mounted the unit on a piece of wood and mounted that onto a heavy duty plastic storage box that I put a battery inside and the transducer to a portable holder and that to a swing out wooden arm,..a plastic bullseye level "bubble" from home depot glued on the transducer made it easy to level,...anyway I was impressed with it for ice fishing,.plenty of light on the screen in the dark too,..maybe I'll have to team up with a vex person on some future outing ,(or someone hear can tell me).but I guess I can't see how this would be much better. I don't know if they still have some of these around for clearances,.but its a great unit IMO.
