The ice map shows the area to have 2-6 inches of ice. All I know is that two days ago there was open water as far as I could see.
I take my dog down to the beach on the East side of Cawtaba Island every morning, and this morning I could still a few patches of open water. I would be hard pressed to say that there is 6 inches of ice out there. Maybe along the shore lines, but not more than 3 tenths of a mile out. We're making ice and should be for the rest of the week. High teens to mid 20's thru Sat., and Sunday's high is calling for 32 degrees. I don't know what's in store for next week.

As long as the winds stay calm like this we will have really nice ice for you ice fishermen. It's pretty smooth out there right now.

Great news. Thanks for the update. PLEASE let us know as soon as there is safe fishable ice. I'm ready for a trip.

The wind is blowing hard out of the North today, and the smooth ice that we had is now ravaged. There are ice heaves as far as you can see, and the ice is more like shards of ice all over the place, than one big block of ice like we had yesterday.

It will be a very bumpy ride in the airboats and on 4 wheelers when they do get to go out. There are still pockets of open water out there, but the temps are so low today that it is definately making more ice. 17 degrees at early to mid afternoon right now.

I just read the long range forecast was for extremely cold weather the rest of January. They are forecasting that all of Lake Erie will freeze over. You can soon be fishing on ice at your end of the lake too!

[b]Hey, Cuzin Juls.

Better build me a nest in your garage if this weather keeps up and ice forms on Erie. I don't mind sleeping with a Ranger, as long as he's not wearing green shorts and a little funny hat. :D
