am new to locators.
guestion is. how does a locator show whats below the boat at different speeds with same scroll speed on locator.
if i'm trolling at 2mph do i get the same as running at 30mph.
if not how do i adjust for it?
would seem to me that if i'm running 30mph when it showed up on my
locator i would be long ways past it.

If your finder shows the bottom at 30 mph. You got one helluva finder. Scroll speed at its max wont help you at 30 mph. You long gone from what you may be seeing on the screen. Thats why its senseless to run your unit at that speed except for depth only.

the newer units have faster processor etc and are getting closer to what a flasher gives you...instant reading. but you do have to be watching it to see what it is telling you.
most any unit i have ever used has a scroll speed adjustment (the faster the scroll speed the better the definition/detail)..bottom contours are shown no problem and yes you will be "X" amount of feet past what your running over depending on the setting and quality of your unit...even with a flasher when running at speed your over a hump etc by the time you can slowdown. marking fish at speed is where you have to learn how to read what your seeing. the more the pixel count the better the detail also...this is just a brief discription but hope that helps.

Slower scroll speed gives better resolution because it gives the pixel more time to register.
