Hey all,
Have to say that this is one of the saddest days of my life..Have to put my old dog down today..No, he's not a pure bred, but he's my buddy and I'm going to miss him like crazy..He's 13 1/2+ years old, and loved the boat and riding in the truck..Will miss taking him to Mickey D's for cheeseburgers and on fishin' trips..
Thanks for letting me get this off my chest..
Farewell Carmel..

Sorry to see your pall move on Buzzer.
Pets are often true family members and it sure hurts to see them pass.
But man, what a true friend while they were here, isn't that right?

Sorry to hear that Kyle. He/she was a lucky dog to have you as a friend for so long though buddy. Nothing in this world harder to do than to make that decision, but even in the end, know this, they will always love you, and he/she will be waiting at the gates, with tail wagging, when you go "home" again.
Best wishes.

My heart goes out to you buzzer, I found the only way to fill the void is to get a little puppy to keep me busy. Hope this helps. Brian

My day of going through this is, its hard to say but probably soon. I really hate to see the day come as I was never attached to a dog in my life before this one and she is a REAL family member. My heart hurts now thinking about it. Like one of the other posts said "Remember all the good memories! Real Sorry!

Check out the reply I put in on "when to let go." It's a very tough, very sad thing, and the price we pay for all the wonderful years of comapnionship shared! Good luck.

Buzzer, it sure hurts to lose a pet like that, they will do anything for you and all they want in return is a little love, which I'm sure you gave lots of. Cherish all the good memories and be grateful that you had such a dear freind for all those years.

Sorry to hear about your dog. I had to put my lab down last Easter Sunday. That was the worst thing I ever had to do in my life so far. I told poured my emotions out on this site and i am glad i did. There were meny great people on this site who were there to help, the main one being Juls. They helped my family get through it and we purchased another chocolate lab who is named Dakota. He is now six months old and one #$@%% of a handfull.
The thing I remember most about our new pup is the many hours my family and I had reading the post in the name our pup search.
Aquaman said it best though, he said that no matter how many great names you hear the name you give your dog will come from you and your familys heart and it did.
Once again I feel your sorrow,

Buzzer - The only thing God did wrong when he made dogs was that they don't live long enough. Hang in there and time will heal this wound too.
God bless you and your family

As I sit here and look at my 5 year old Black lab, I can only imagin what you are going through. My family's hearts go out to you and it will me thankful I still have my best freind. I know I will face the same thing some day and I know what it will do to my wife. Take care and may God bless you as you go through these tough times.

It's a hard one.
I had to go thru it twice in 1 year. (1999)
Get another quick...that's what works for me. It'll never be your old buddy.. but it'll be your buddy with different good and bad points.
Buzzer, while you grieve, take comfort in the fact that your Carmel had a long, good life with a great master. Such a small percentage of animals
have that... I use to do volunteer work for the local animal shelter but gave it up because once a month or so when they euthanized the so called unadoptable's it broke my heart to face all the empty cages afterwards.
Purebred's usually find their way into an adoption, it's the mix breed's
like Carmel that suffer a much sadder fate. Please everyone if you own a pet, have it spayed or neutered.

buzzer, this sounds like a tough time... i have an 11 1/2 year old lab that has been a great fishing, hunting and travelling buddy. you sound like a lucky guy to have had such a good dog for so long. also, i am sure your dog must have been a lucky dog. you know, we have always been able to tell a little something about people that treasure their pets so much. usually these people are tops and i am sure that is the case with you. keep the good times and awesome memories close by. sorry about your sad day. jim c
Buzzer,
Our thoughts are with you on this sad day!!! Take time to recall the Joyous moments that Carmel brought.

Sorry to here about your loss, I had to do that with two, a Lab and a Brittany. It is never easy and enough for me. If you really enjoy them there's nothing like a puppy to cure your sorrow. good luck!
Thanks,

Buzzer,
Have been through this myself and my sincerest sympathies are with you and your family. I agree with T-Mac and think you should get another dog soon. I waited about 5 months when my last dog died and it was the longest 5 months of my life. My golden is laying at my feet as I type this and he is the best dog I have ever had, of course I will tell you the same thing about every dog I ever had!!!!! Take care and my thoughts are with you in your time of sadness.

Buzzer,
I also share your pain. I had to put down the very first dog I ever owned and it was agonizingly hard. She was an extension of me. She knew all of my moods and was always there for me. Constantly at my side every where I went. What a companion. She ended up with real bad arthritus (SP) blind and def. I knew I did the right thing and probably waited to long to put her down. To this day I still carry a picture of her. I agree to get a puppy dont treat it like a replacement but as a new friend. My sympathy is with you.

There are so many very caring comments in this thread. What a fabulously compassionate bunch of folks. I feel the pain so often expressed about how hard it is to part with our constant, unconditional companion, who always greeted us with big time joy when we came home. It makes me longingly look at my 8-year old Lab, Yukon, and realize we only have 4 - 5 more years, at best, left together. Again, I will have to decide "When to let go?"
Let's be honest about it. When was the last time a human member of your family tried to jump a fence with their rear end wagging to greet you?
Again, I'll refer guys & gals to the threads that contain the little ditty I wrote on when to "Let go?" on when I had to put down my best, bud, "Major." It's a heartbreaker on the passage of time & youth we go through to in our lifes:
http://www.walleyecentral.com/dcf/generaldiscussion/14270.html
Most dogs are more caring than most people that I've met. Is there a lot of disgreement from dog owners on that?

I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE AT. I HAD TO PUT DOWN MY DOBBIE A FEW YEARS AGO. THE WIFE NEVER LIKED THE DOG,AND SHE USED TO HAVE SEIZURES AND THEN LOSE BLADDER CONTROL AND THEN HER STOOL SOMETIMES,AND THEN SHE WOULD GET REAL WIERD AFTERWARDS,ACT IRRATIONAL, LIKE DO THINGS SHE WOULD NEVER DO OTHERWISE. TROUBLE STUFF,LIKE GET IN THE GARBAGE AND SHRED STUFF. BUT SHE WAS THE BEST ##### DOG I EVER OWNED. NOW HER SON IS GETTING ON LIKE THIS SPRING HE WILL BE 13. HE IS OF SOUND MIND,AND HIS HEALTH IS GOOD IT'S JUST THAT ##### ARTHRITIS! SOME DAYS HE CANT GET AROUND FOR ##### OTHER DAYS HE RUNS AND PLAYS LIKE A PUP,MY DAYS ACOMIN' AND I AINT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT. P.S I CRIED LIKE A BABY WHEN I PUT THE OL' GIRL DOWN,AND THE WIFE TRIED TO ACT LIKE SHE CARED. IT DIDNT MEAN MUCH TO ME AFTER THE FACT.
