I would like to purchase new rods and reels for the purpose of pulling planer boards. I would like any advice on this subject. I will be purchasing six and need to do it right the first time.
Thank you in advance

Daiwa 27's for the reel and shimano TDR 8ft rods. I have yet to use a combo I like better. The shimano TDR rods are very nice rods with dense foam handles, and guides that stay on and don't crack off. And the best part about them is they are only $30 at fleet farm. Good luck! PS-I wouldn't spend more than $40 per rod, there are plenty out there that are very good for less than that.

I second the Daiwa's. Another great rod is the Quantum XL DR860. This is an 8'6" downrigger rod and it isn't quite as fast on the tip as the Shimano's. I have used them for about 4 years now and really like them. Get them at the same place, Fleet Farm, for about $35.00

Diawa 27s and St. Croix GT80M rod.
Go with the Daiwa reels with either the 7'10" or the 8'6" Gary Roach telescopic rods by Berkley.

I have used the Daiwa SG27LC's for years - excellent reel and they work well with any of the Walleye Angler Signature series trolling rods. The rods come in 7'6", 8' or 8'6" sizes, all of the telescope. Get the shorter ones if you have short rod lockers, the longer ones are a little nicer for fighting the fish in, since the extra length will give you a little longer tip area.
Also check out the response I gave to someone else looking for a trolling rig. The new Gold Cup Line counters by Bass Pro are based on the Daiwa Sealine Series reels - which are proven durable. The good thing is you can save some big buck when you combo this reel with one of the WA rods above!

I'm surprised not to see the Daiwa Heartland series rods mentioned yet. Very good rod for an affordable price.

I am a proponent of long rods so I am a bit biased. However I use Cabeles Innerflow 9 foot heavy action rods. Same as Daiwa interline. You can retrieve one from the bottom of your locker full of rods and not get hooked on the other rods.Tough rods, great action.I feel more in control of big fish with a longer rod, especially on a short line......$60.

I agree with Targa2 that Cabela's Innerline trolling rods are good, and you need either a heavy or medium heavy action for boards. I have 2 of them, and love them. As for linecounters, Diawa 27's.
Do you know of a good spot to get those Berkely Rods?
Thanks!

Diawa 27's for the reels. As for the rods, I like the Walleye Angler one from Bass Pro in the 8'6". I also like the Gander Mountian GS series in the same size. It is a Two Piece so it stores pretty easily. Both rods are dependable and pretty inexpensive.
