I had just returned from a fishing show, where I met a friend of some credibility from Indiana. He had told me of 2 recent supersized walleye that were supposedly taken from a discharge site along the Lake Michigan shoreline. He also told me that at this point the fish were not being allowed as state records because they were caught in a closed area. He also stated this was going to be appealed, since the anglers were employees fishing company property, thus would be similar to someone who had caught a record fish from a private farm pond, and is thus allowable to be a state record. BTW, this is not the fish that was disallowed last year that was caught in the Port of Indiana.

He stated that pictures of the fish are posted at the Quick Step Baitshop. Vetspet or FootDoc, have you seen pictures or heard anything of these fish?

I wouldn't want to perpetuate any unfounded rumors of the alleged size of these fish, but the said size of the larger one is just incredible and would really stir up some excitement.

Like I said, the source is from someone highly respected in the local angling community.

Seems like that story was floating around on the boards last year, or the year before. I can't remember what happened exactly, because right after that some guy posted a picture of a walleye from a secret lake in Northern Minnesota that was reportedly huge. The photo was a bad angle, or the guy holding it was approximately 32' tall and weighing about 1440+/- lbs.

.... Not to get off on a tangent ..or anything.... :)

Totally unrelated to the Indiana walleye, of course. But, it took the shine away, you know?

There has been some talk on an indiana walleye board that I read about this. If you are talking about the walleye that were caught in trail creek? This happens (from what i read) every winter before the mouth of trail freezes up, the eyes come in for the trout that are released. Those 4-6inch trout are easy prey..There have been reports of 13#ers being taken on crankbaits?? By the time I tried to make it up there it was iced in... go figure

Hope this is what you were talking about

Back in December 2002 a state record walleye was caught in Lake Michigan in Burns Harbour. It was disqualified as the person that caught it was fishing there illegally. It was posted for no boats. This is where I think this rumor came from. Here's an article I found with the complete story.
