Hello everyone, I'm in canada and i've experimented with bottom bouncers in the last couple years with not much success. I've never tried using dipsy's before but i'm going to give them a try this year. Can anybody tell me when to use " bottom bouncers and when to use dipsy divers" Much appriciated and this is a great site. Thank you.

I know that if I'm trolling,I prefer the dipseys. They bite better with some speed. Using bottom bouncers while trolling over 1 mph, it seems you need alot of weight to reach the desired depth. Dipseys also allow you the freedom to spread out your lines if you are able to use more than a couple of rods.

I agree with Pete, it's a speed thing. Bouncers are better suited for slow speeds and maybe contour trolling; while Dipsys are more of an open water presentation, where speeds over 2 mph are the norm.
Bouncers are more for harnesses, spinners and live bait, while Dipsys are for spoons, stickbaits, or special Dipsy harnesses.
If your lakes have a suspended walleye bite Dipsys will produce well, if not you may be disappointed.
Good luck and good fishing and COME ON SPRING!!!

Do concur with the other posts. Dispeys are more atttuned to fishing different depths in open water, whereas BOTTOM-bouncers are not (generally).

Will add another aspect, that dipseys are a great tool in presenting the bait along the water's column. Doing S-turns while trolling will drop the dipseys depth on the slow side, and raise it on the fast side. One other little quirky thing I do - every 10 minutes or so, drop the dipsey 10 feet, until you hit the bottom. Then reverse the process and raise it 10 feet.

I've even seen fish follow it right up to the boat!
